Role
Who you are
- Proven experience (5+ years) of leading engineers with an emphasis on implementing best in class principles
- Skilled collaborator able to effectively coordinate efforts across multiple teams and functions
- Experience working with distributed or nearshore teams is a plus
- Strong technical skills with experience working on complex, distributed backend services
- Familiarity with our technical stack based on C#, MS SQL, RabbitMQ, Docker, and Kubernetes
- Actively leverage AI tools to improve engineering productivity and practices
- (Nice to have) Knowledge of payments processing in a regulated environment

What the job involves
- We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Payments Tribe, a critical part of our platform powering the payment experience across channels. You will report to the Head of Engineering, and manage 9 engineers across 2 squads (Core, Pay)
- You will play a key role in enhancing our platform and raising the bar for the service provided to our customers, working across payment APIs, processing, reconciliation, and core banking systems
- This role combines people management, technical leadership, and stakeholder coordination for a Tribe that is central to both current and future projects for Lemonway. You will drive the delivery of our next-generation card payment stack for acquiring and issuing, as well as our cash management platform
- Create the conditions for the squads to operate effectively and deliver consistently
- Hire, develop and retain high-performing engineers in partnership with HR
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement in development practices, processes and knowledge sharing
- Lead the squads’ delivery across short- and long-term initiatives by setting clear goals, and execution paths in ambiguous contexts
- Own the scope end-to-end ensuring solutions deliver meaningful value to customers and the business
- Guide technical decisions to ensure high standards of reliability, quality, and security across systems
- Drive cross-team initiatives to continuously raise the bar of our engineering standards
- Partner with Product to define and drive a clear, realistic roadmap with strong alignment on delivery and quality
- Frame and communicate trade-offs between feature delivery, reliability, support, and technical debt
- Act as the main point of contact for stakeholders across engineering, product, and business teams
- Own the technical relationship with our third-party providers including integrations, performance, and escalations
