Role
Who you are
- Extensive experience leading and running a CRM / retention marketing function in a fast paced scale-up business
- Experience across multiple channels including email, app and direct mail
- Highly data literate
- Experience managing a small CRM team
- Demonstrable experience of growing LTV
- Experience setting up and using Braze, is highly desirable
- Comfortable with the ambiguity of working in a fast paced startup / scaleup environment
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a Head of Retention Marketing to join our team to drive existing customer engagement and growth
- Our Retention Marketing team is a global function and is focused on driving LTV and engagement. We work alongside our market teams to ensure communications best practice and effectiveness
- Owning and optimising the global retention marketing strategy
- Working to increase LTV and customer engagement
- Strategic ownership of email, in-app, push, and direct mail channels; working to help markets activate across channels
- Ensuring a first class customer comms experience
- Bringing campaigns to life for our existing customers alongside the market, brand and content teams
- Overseeing Yoto Club communications alongside the product marketing team to help markets drive sign-ups, engage existing members, and reactivate lapsed members
- Monitoring and reporting regularly on performance across channels and campaigns
- Working with the design, UX and brand teams to ensure engaging and on-brand communications are consistently delivered
- Working closely with relevant product and acquisition colleagues to ensure data capture is prioritised and follows best practice
- Leading on the continued development and implementation of Braze into the business

Our take
A key development in the last 5 years has been a move towards screen-based kids entertainment like apps and streaming services. However, more recently there have been concerns that excessive screen time for children can be damaging to health and development. So, many consumers are looking for alternative products which will expose children to modernity without the drawbacks of many modern devices. This is the demand which Yoto is setting out to capitalise on.
Yoto's product - a screen-free audio platform - enables children to access features such as audiobooks, podcasts, and soundscapes via physical cards inserted into the device. The Yoto Player has received considerable early praise from consumers and from investors also, who granted Yoto considerable funding.
Perhaps the most difficult challenge for a business operating in the highly competitive children's toys market is keeping its product current. However, Yoto's software is fully customisable, meaning that alongside its library of content, parents can add their own audio files to the device to suit the interests of their children. This imbibes Yoto with a customisability that gives it an edge, especially as children's tastes change with age.
