What the job involves

Duration: June 2, 2025 - August 8, 2025 (10 weeks)
As a Software Engineer Intern at Kargo, you will join a team of backend engineers responsible for developing Kargo’s large-scale distributed advertising auction platform to: 1) Maximize revenue for publishers, and 2) Enhance brand value for marketers
You will gain first-hand experience working with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), utilizing Agile methodology (Scrum)
You will have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of areas including development, design, testing, and big data using the industry’s leading-edge technologies like Golang, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Snowflake, and more
You will collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Project, Solutions Engineering, and Data teams to formulate and develop solutions, which ultimately will provide valuable experiences that will set you apart in your engineering career
Throughout this summer internship, you’ll learn a variety of tools/fields including Micro-service architecture, REST architecture, Distributed Systems, Cloud Technology, Troubleshooting and critical thinking, Programmatic Advertising, Big Data, and Databases
Design, develop, and deploy production-grade code that adheres to Kargo’s code standard
Collaborate cross-functionally to diagnose and debug production issues
Work in an Agile environment, attending daily stand-ups and actively participating in sprint planning and retrospectives
Update documentation to improve knowledge sharing and onboarding process as needed

The way in which advertisers reach out to their audiences has changed dramatically over the last decade, primarily due to the invention of the smartphone. Whilst mobile ads have existed since the beginning of smartphones, most rely on technology that was built for desktops, resulting in bad advertising and missed opportunities.

Kargo provides a mobile advertising platform for marketers and publishers, helping them to deliver better business outcomes by leveraging advertising technology designed specifically for mobile. The company achieves this by directly integrating optimized impressions from the best-performing publishers within its specialized supply, using tangible identity metrics to analyze and improve advertiser KPIs, and overall, by facilitating personalized, mobile-optimized advertising.

The company acquired Videobyte (a video advertising platform for Connected TV) in early 2023 to expand operations into the relatively young digital TV industry and its lucrative TV formats. Bringing video, publisher tools, and unique formats to Kargo's omnichannel, this acquisition indicates a diversification of media for the advertising provider, which already has a firm grip on both mobile and desktop advertising platforms. On top of that, 2025 funding is being used for R&D of new AI-powered products and to broaden market reach.
