Role
Who you are
- Strong technical background due to the strong technical nature of the products being built
- Proven experience shipping a breadth of high-quality consumer product features at a Fintech or Payments company
- You have 5+ years of product management experience shipping world-class products at fast-growing companies and have had demonstrable engagement with Design, Engineering and Leadership teams
- You are fluent in SQL and have strong software engineering experience to interrogate product data yourself and make good decisions. We understand that perfect data is not available but knowing what pragmatic assumptions can be made to drive reasonable decisions is very important
- You have enough engineering context to know a bad MVP from a good one and have experience with product discovery methodologies
- You have strong empathy for customers and an unwillingness to compromise on user-centered design
- Experience in working with third parties, whether it’s evaluating APIs and capabilities, mapping out integration plans or evaluating different technology options
Desirable
- Understand equally the customers needs from a UK, African and Asian perspective
- In addition to English, you can also speak French or Swahili
What the job involves
- Our Fraud and consumer safety team, protects NALA and its customers from fraud and general abuse
- This will include building new tools for fraud prevention, detection, and mitigation
- Bring a sense of urgency to your work and inspire the team to unite under your leadership to deliver an incredible product
- Take ownership of the consumer product to drive the product and business-planning process across cross-functional teams of the company
- Drive the execution of all product lifecycle processes for products, including product research, market research, competitive analysis, planning, positioning, roadmap development, requirements development, and product launch
- Develop product positioning and messaging that differentiates NALA and its features across primary market segments
- Collaborate with design, engineering, research, legal and compliance teams to refine your plan and execute it effectively
- You’ll be speaking to customers on a near daily basis to understand needs and ultimately sticking our ethos of “customer first, always”
- Develop an understanding of our users at a deep level and gauge customer needs to propose prospective solutions
- Define initial product proposition and go-to-market strategies for new expansion markets
- Meeting with the C-suite to discuss financial data and ways to improve business operations

As global enterprise has become more interwoven, and Africa grows as an economic powerhouse, financial infrastructure has failed to keep pace with growing demand. Nala is providing the financial services to meet that gap.
The company started in Tanzania as a consumer payments aggregator and has used that platform to launch a remittance business rooted in its connections with East Africa, driving down the eye-watering 10% fees for its diaspora userbase.
The FinTech startup is now looking to double down on the lucrative remittance business, onboarding more users in its newly licensed areas: the U.S. and France.
While NALA has had some success with the products its built so far, the true test for the company will be navigating the deeply complicated international infrastructure necessary for an international payments platform, all while retaining their consumer-friendly credentials.
