Role
Who you are
- Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field with 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist
- Strong programming skills in Python, including experience with relevant libraries such as scikit-learn, and Pandas & SQL
- Expertise in designing and building performance metrics
- Experience working with large-scale datasets and distributed computing platforms (e.g., Bigquery, Spark, Hadoop) with solid understanding of data processing, feature engineering, and data visualization techniques
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences
Desirable
- Experience with AV metrics
- Proficiency in a wide range of classical machine learning techniques, statistical modeling, experimental design
- Basic proficiency in C++ (able to review/understand codebase)
What the job involves
- We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Scientist to join our Autonomy Software Integration Metrics team and play a pivotal role in developing and deploying cutting-edge autonomous driving technologies
- As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for tackling complex data challenges, driving innovation in metric design and development, and ensuring the discovery and delivery of critical insights to decision makers
- You will work closely with a team of talented engineers and data scientists in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Develop measurement strategies to measure the performance of the AV in detailed scenarios in both simulation and real world contexts
- Analyze large-scale datasets from various sources, such as fleet and simulation data, to extract actionable insights
- Design and implement performance reporting pipelines that can drill down to reveal critical insights
- Communicate complex technical findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior data scientists and engineers
Our take
Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.
It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.
The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, is building a Zoox factory and budgeting $1 billion per year for future development and production.
