What the job involves
- The Business Development Associate will play a critical role in identifying and initiating conversations with potential partners for TerraCycle’s Commercial Recycling division
- The primary focus of this role is front-end sales activities, including researching prospects, cold outreach, and pipeline development to support the growth of TerraCycle’s recycling solutions
- You'll conduct prospect research and identify key decision-makers across target industries
- Perform high-volume outreach via email, phone, and LinkedIn to engage potential clients
- Maintain and update lead databases, ensuring accurate tracking of outreach efforts
- Qualify inbound and outbound leads to determine potential business opportunities
- Schedule introductory meetings and hand off qualified leads to senior team members
- Collaborate with the sales team to develop outreach strategies and improve engagement
- Assist in preparing client presentations and sales materials
- Track and report outreach metrics to measure effectiveness and optimize approaches
Our take
TerraCycle is a recycling company focused on waste that normal council systems can't handle. Items like flexible plastics, coffee pods, beauty packaging and cleaning products are often too complex for standard recycling, so they end up in landfill. TerraCycle offers an alternative, with free mail-in programmes funded by brands and paid options like Zero Waste Boxes that let people and businesses collect and send in hard-to-recycle waste.
This is increasingly important as modern packaging becomes more complex and traditional recycling struggles to keep up. TerraCycle creates dedicated routes for these material, often working with brands to take responsibility for their waste. So, by making recycling more accessible and practical, it shows that much of what we thro away can still be reused with the right systems in place.
More recently, the company has focused on growing participation as much as processing. New recycling programmes expand the types of waste it accepts, while initiatives like referral schemes turn customers into advocates. This shows a key shift: scaling recycling depends not just on technology, but on getting more people involved, something TerraCycle is steadily building toward.
