Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Operations, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in an operations focused role, ideally within an early stage venture and a regulated institution
- 2+ years experience as an acting Management Board member for a relevant regulated financial institution in the Netherlands or the EU (e.g. under PSD2, EMD2, MiCAR etc)
- Understanding of Dutch and EU regulatory frameworks particularly as they relate to governance controls, prudent operational processes, safeguarding and movement of customer funds, outsourcing requirements, etc.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to ascertain insights from large, complex data sets
- Biased towards action with the ability to lean into a fast paced environment
- Experience driving process improvements and implementing scaled solutions within an organization
- Strategic thinker with an enterprise-level orientation, strong conceptual problem-solving and analytical skills, and the ability to execute at the tactical level within a B2B2C environment
- Effective communicator with the ability to manage stakeholders across the business
- Extremely strong work ethic to match the rest of the ZBD organization
- Experience working with the DNB and/or the AFM is an added value
- This role must be resident in the Netherlands
What the job involves
- ZBD is in search of a Head of Operations, EU to join the team and support our efforts in scaling our EU business
- This individual will be pivotal in driving efficiency, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout the wider business
- An ideal candidate will have experience working within a regulated institution (ideally Fintech) and startup environment
- We are looking for someone interested in wearing many different hats, taking ownership to drive results on a daily basis, and who will be resilient enough to work through the ambiguity and varied problems with which they will be tasked
- The Head of Operations will be responsible for setting and implementing ZBD EU’s strategy by tying together projects and capabilities from across the organization with the commercial opportunities in the Netherlands and wider EU markets
- In particular, s/he will be responsible for managing and building our partnerships with major FinTechs, ensuring we build best in-class compliance systems for this new environment, and ensuring the company scales operationally across Finance, Legal, Customer Success, Customer Support, Marketing, People, etc
- The Head of Operations will support the 1st line of defense implementation, monitoring and maintenance of applicable regulatory and compliance controls including MiCAR, DORA, EMD2, PSD2 etc
- The Head of Operations will sit on the Management Board of the ZBD EU entity
- Company Strategy: Assist the management team in creating, growing, and developing an industry leading organization and execute on major company initiatives to meet deadlines and exceed expectations in service of the company vision
- Management: Provide management to staff and leadership to the organization that aligns with the company’s business plan and overall strategic vision and provide accurate and timely reports outlining the operational condition of the business and major initiatives
- Financial management: Oversee EU financial operations, manage the budget, ensure compliance with minimum capital requirements
- Outsourcing Management & Reporting: Oversee the outsourcing relationship between ZBD’s European and group entities, monitor compliance with agreed SLAs and KPIs, identify gaps and deficiencies in delivery and escalate to internal parties when needed
- Operational Strategy & Execution: Support with operational activities related to Finance, HR, and organizational efficiency and foster cross-departmental collaboration and streamline internal processes
- Regulatory Compliance: maintain regulatory awareness and help to drive adherence to policies and procedures throughout ZBD’s operations and first line of defense functions while working closely with ZBD's second line of defense and support the Head of Risk and Compliance
- Maintain and Update the Policies and Procedures which fall under the Operations domain
- Process Improvement: Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in operational processes and develop process enhancements for better productivity and user experience
- Vendor & Partner Management: Manage existing vendor relationships and secure new ones as they relate to the core operating functions of the business while ensuring compliance with outsourcing, DORA and internal third party requirements
- Product and technology: Work with the product and engineering functions of ZBD to align the product development roadmap with business goals and ensure technology systems are effective
- Automation: Collaborate with cross-functional partners to automate redundant tasks and streamline operations where possible
- Performance Monitoring: Track key operational metrics of the EU business to help fuel data-driven decision-making
- Management Board & Accountability: Sit on the Management Board and be the responsible and accountable individual for business functions - i.e. complaints, HR, Finance, etc and oversee the daily operations of those key company departments
