Who you are
- Financial Acumen: The candidate should hold a degree in accounting or business administration. Experience in a Big 4 and/or public company is valuable for this role
- Technical Development: This role provides a pathway for continual growth in accounting skills, as the individual will manage key accounts and learn through active engagement with the team
- . A clear understanding and commitment to the accurate recording of financial information are imperative
- The candidate will also contribute to implementing SOX related to Financial Reporting, Equity, Inventory and other areas, including determining appropriate tools for remediation of material weaknesses
- Team Engagement: The new hire will collaborate extensively with the team to ensure reports are generated promptly
- Since most tasks interact with other functions, open and consistent communication with other team members is vital to achieve collective goals, such as improving our closing times
- Innovation: The individual is encouraged to identify and propose improvements actively
- With ample scope for innovation within our processes, the team member will always have a voice within the accounting team
- Reporting: The role demands a sharp focus on reconciliations and reporting
- The candidate will be responsible for ensuring reconciliations are accurate and completed punctually
What the job involves
- Evolv is looking for a skilled Accounting Manager with Big 4 and/or public company experience and their CPA to support our financial operations
- The Accounting Manager will be a key member of the accounting team responsible for managing the general ledger, preparing financial statements and reports and ensuring strict adherence to and working to enhance our SOX control framework
- Your experience with and focus on accounting best practices and compliance, combined with your team-orientation and commitment to collaboration will be essential in the future success of Evolv and our mission!
- In the first 30 days, you will:
- Understand the organizational structure and your responsibilities within Evolv
- Build relationships within the Accounting team and key internal partners
- Gain an understanding of Evolv’s accounting policies and procedures, processes, systems (NetSuite, Salesforce, Workiva, Blackline), and internal controls
- Within 3 months, you will:
- Ensure timely completion of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls, and work towards remediating existing material weaknesses
- Assume month-end close responsibilities focused on preparing and reviewing account reconciliations and journal entries
- Assume responsibility for researching technical accounting matters, including new accounting pronouncements and impacts of proposed transactions in the business
- Assist in the preparation and review of SEC filings, including Forms 10Q/K, Proxy statement, Form 8K, and others
- Help with Ad Hoc projects
- Have an understanding of how roles and responsibilities are divided amongst the accounting team
- By the end of the first year, you will:
- Demonstrate a full understanding of Evolv’s SOX control framework and remediate all material weaknesses in your area of responsibility
- Be able to research technical accounting matters and communicate findings to all affected areas of the business
- Utilize your accounting experience to enhance the speed and accuracy of Evolv's book closing
- Provide technical accounting guidance to other team members as needed, exemplifying a team-player attitude
- Answer auditor inquiries during quarterly reviews and the annual audit and establish yourself as a reliable resource in executing tasks or connecting with relevant personnel
- Approach challenges with a solution-oriented mindset, viewing problems as opportunities to implement improvements
- This role reports to the Assistant Controller
Our take
Security screening systems are essential within venues such as concert halls, schools, and workplaces, but there are several problems with existing solutions. For example, lengthy queues and physically intimidating security checkpoints can taint visitor experiences, as well as cause congestion due to their inefficiencies.
Evolv Technology develops AI-driven screening systems, aiming to remove the tension, intimidation, and friction associated with security screening. It does this with a smart touchless screening sensor for weapon detection called Evolve Edge, in addition to an all-in-one venue security analytics platform called Evolv Express.
Whilst the company does face competition from similar security solutions at high-risk locations such as airports, its ability to serve a wide range of venues helps it stand out. It is no doubt Evolv has the ability to make spaces safer, though its past claims it made them "weapon-free" was challenged by a recent failure of its system to detect knives. It does, however, continue to innovate on its offering, and remains an attractive option in the space.
