Who you are
- The ideal candidate will be deeply technical, detail oriented, able to use their influence to drive results for their team with a sense of urgency and ownership
- 8+ years of Technical Program Management experience in a related industry
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent years of work experience
- Must have a thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle, and strong technical experience in building distributed systems, platforms and products at scale, with expertise using program management tools and software (e.g. Jira, Airtable, Asana, etc)
- Solid technical aptitude with an ability to understand technical architectures and speak to system design, reliability and scalability challenges, and design tradeoffs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable presenting in large groups and handling high-pressure communication with senior management
- Experience managing large, cross-functional programs with technical depth and expert program management skills
- Detail oriented, with the ability to thrive in a fast paced environment with ambitious priorities
Desirable
- Experience with 0→1 initiatives and bringing new products to the market
- Experience as a Scrum Master or Engineering Manager
What the job involves
- Dropbox is seeking an exceptional Technical Program Manager (TPM) to join our team. The Core Operations TPM, will lead high priority core-wide programs and help operate our Engineering organization
- This TPM will establish operating rhythms for our Engineering organization and run these rhythms alongside running independent cross-functional programs.
- Program Leadership: Drive the development, alignment and execution of various strategic engineering initiatives, defining clear roadmaps and ensuring successful delivery across cross-functional teams and be able to manage ambitious timelines, proactively identify and mitigate risks, and lead the successful execution of complex, cross-functional engineering programs
- Stakeholder Management: Cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels to foster alignment and drive collective success
- Technical Excellence: Apply your deep technical expertise and domain aptitude to drive innovative solutions across various engineering programs
- Exceptional Communication: Expertly communicate progress across all levels of the organization, and be able to regularly communicate and present to executive leadership on behalf of your team
- Leading Through Influence: As a strong leader, you will collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners across Engineering, Product Management, Design and Marketing to successfully influence decisions and drive results and you will use your technical acumen and operational excellence to help the team achieve their ambitious OKRs (Objectives and Key Results)
- Engineering Management: Establish and lead our engineering review cadences, coordinating engineering execution for roadmap items and dependencies across the Core organization
Our take
Dropbox started by helping people bring together their files in one central place. The contents of these folders are synchronised to Dropbox's servers along with other computers and devices where the user has installed Dropbox, keeping the same files up-to-date across all devices.
Nowadays, there are lots of competing companies in cloud storage, and some with better distribution (e.g. Google and Apple). This explains why Dropbox is making a big push to reinvent itself after a fairly disappointing run since its IPO in 2018. The new Dropbox turns folders into "Spaces", which are collaboration hubs for teams, complete with comment streams, artificial intelligence tools and integrations into services such as Slack.
The company continues to build out its offerings through acquisitions, such as that of Formswift, bolstering its end-to-end agreement workflow capabilities. Indeed, It's very clear that Dropbox is trying to make a big move from being just a storage company. This seems to be a necessary move given the competitive nature of the industry it is operating within.
