Who you are
- 5+ years of experience in software development with a strong focus on Python
- Strong English communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team
- Hands-on experience with RESTful APIs and microservices
- Strong understanding of scalability, performance optimization, and distributed systems
- Experience with databases such as MySQL or DynamoDB
- Knowledge of monitoring applications for performance and reliability
- Hands-on experience with Kafka
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to clean code, maintainability, and systematic correctness
- You are a team player who likes to contribute to discussions and share your experience
- You are self-motivated and can function effectively in a team environment with minimum supervision

Desirable
- Experience working with recommendation systems, machine learning models, or data-driven applications
- Experience in Agile development environments
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (HTTP, TCP, TLS, etc.)
- Proficiency with CI/CD systems, Docker, and Kubernetes
- Experience with cloud environments like AWS or GCP
- Computer Science degree or equivalent
What the job involves
- Lightspeed is looking for a Senior Python Developer to join our team. As a Backend developer, you will support Lightspeed's Hospitality product group on the mission to expand our reach into new markets and countries while enhancing our advanced hospitality commerce platform
- For this role specifically, you will join our Recommendations Squad. In this team, you will play a key part in developing and optimizing recommendation algorithms, building scalable APIs, and integrating various systems into our products
- You will collaborate closely with engineers, data scientists, and product teams to create high-quality, personalized experiences for our users
- Above all, your work will change the way the world experiences hospitality!
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient backend systems using Python
- Implement and optimize recommendation algorithms to enhance user experience
- Develop and maintain robust APIs and microservices for seamless system integration
- Work with data engineers and machine learning teams to process and utilize large datasets effectively
- Writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives and enhance development practices
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, ensuring system reliability and scalability
- Extending your very own skills by learning from and growing with the team
