Role
Who you are
- 7+ years of software engineering experience with 4+ years of experience as a people manager
- Experience leading through other leaders; this can be through technical leads or people managers
- Proven ability to collaborate with product/program managers, designers, and peers to build plans, set expectations, and successfully deliver new 0 to 1 products and features
- A strong business acumen and customer-centric mindset, backed by data analytics skills
- Solid technical foundations, while this is not a hands-on coding role, you should still show sound foundational system design knowledge and be able to guide a team through a technical discussion
- Ability to recruit and build high-performing teams to build the next generation of GlossGenius products!
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Previous experience as leading cross full-stack engineering teams is a nice to have
What the job involves
- As a Senior Engineering Manager at GlossGenius, you are responsible for growing, managing, and mentoring a team of engineers within our product engineering organization
- As an engineering leader, you will collaborate closely with both engineering and product leaders and own the technical strategy and roadmap of your team
- We’ve built a great product that empowers tens of thousands of solopreneurs and business owners to run and grow their businesses efficiently - customers love our product (4.7+ stars in the App Store!)
- As our customers continue to grow their businesses, our “Spaces” team is focused on developing new products to enable GlossGenius to grow with them!
- This role reports to our Director of Engineering
- You can work remotely from anywhere in the continental United States or from our office in NYC
- Employees based in the NYC area will operate in a hybrid environment and should expect to be in office two days per week (Tuesdays & Thursdays)
- Be responsible for managing and growing a team of talented senior and staff engineers; you can view your team holistically and understand how to best utilize their skill sets, empowering them to deliver on their day-to-day engineering responsibilities as well as their long-term career aspirations
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other cross-functional teams to establish the long-term technical and product vision and the steps needed to get there
- Prioritize, plan, and ensure alignment across your team and other cross-functional business teams to execute on key initiatives and drive business impact
- Implement new and effective engineering processes that emphasize quality and progress on key product initiatives
- Partner with recruiting to build a high-performing engineering team; you understand how to attract and retain top talent

However, despite a modern facade the beauty industry lacks specialised software and still runs on generic CRMs and basic spreadsheets. Recognising a gap in the market, GlossGenius has stepped in to provided a specialised business management platform for beauty salons, spas and studios.
With no competition in this niche, GlossGenius has swiftly captured a large market share, with triple-digit year on year revenue growth. It serves over 40,000 businesses (70% of which are women-owned) and has more than $2 billion in annual transactions on the platform.
GlossGenius has raised a large amount of capital in several funding rounds closed in quick succession. It is aiming to accelerate platform development off the back of its releasing of consumer experience, payment and automation products. It is well on the way to fulfilling its long-term aim of developing into the Toast of the beauty industry.
