Who you are
- The ideal candidate brings expertise across capital markets, structured finance, and technology transactions, with the ability to operate as both a trusted legal advisor and a commercial partner. You’ll play a critical role in supporting Setpoint’s growth by building scalable legal processes, negotiating complex agreements, and helping our customers and partners confidently navigate the evolving credit ecosystem
- 5+ years of experience drafting and negotiating a variety of capital markets and finance agreements and related documentation, including asset backed facilities
- Fintech experience and/or in-house experience at a bank or financial institution is a plus
- Proficiency with AI tools a plus
- Ability to prioritize appropriately, and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment
- JD degree from a top tier law school, admission to the New York bar in good standing
- Flexible, positive, and team oriented approach to work
What the job involves
- Behind many of life’s biggest financial decisions such as buying a car, securing a mortgage, or financing a business, is a complex network of credit relationships. Setpoint is building the infrastructure that powers these relationships, enabling the world’s largest banks, credit funds, asset managers, and capital markets counterparties to operate with trust and efficiency
- Setpoint is looking for an Associate Counsel to join our team!
- A capital markets and technology enthusiast – you know your way around highly complex capital markets and finance transactions, including extensive familiarity with standard closing documentation and roles of the participants, and are excited about combining your past transactional experience with cutting-edge technology
- A negotiator and problem solver – you make decisions and provide practical guidance based on not only your legal background but also reasoning that aligns with the company’s commercial interests
- A great communicator – you possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail without oversight
- A multi-tasker with strong organizational skills – you can manage multiple priorities and set frameworks for how to execute them effectively within their deadlines
- Work closely with the VP, Legal and Sales Team to oversee all legal aspects of customer documentation and capital markets technology products
- Draft and negotiate SaaS and other customer agreements
- Review and negotiate documentation in connection with our technology platform services and our Capital Solutions team
- Keep up to speed with industry trends and legal and regulatory market changes
Our take
Whilst tech innovations have made applying for a loan far quicker and easier, the next step in the process - the management of the loan - is far more complex and still comparatively archaic in its organisation. Originators and lenders use spreadsheets, emails and FTP folders to manage their lending relationships, rendering the process inefficient and prone to errors. Setpoint automates the debt facility management process for lenders.
Founded in 2021, the company claims 98% time saving for lenders, automating data ingestions, calculations and reporting workflows whilst its AI engine computes optimal asset allocation to max ROI. Financial liquidity is increased through access to third-party reviews and certifications, compliantly accelerating capital access. In short, Setpoint streamlines the second, more oblique stage of the lending relationship.
Focused on the property market, Setpoint’s tech could be expanded to other markets. Its focus on real estate, however, has helped it achieve several impressive funding rounds and a 6x year-over-year revenue growth.
