Who you are

7-10 years of software engineering experience, and 3-5 years in a leadership or management role
Passion for mentorship, coaching, hiring, and helping engineers grow in their careers
Proven track record of leading teams in agile environments, with a track record of shipping high-quality, scalable web applications
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and influence stakeholders
Technical background in software development, with expertise in modern web technologies, cloud infrastructure (AWS), and system design. (CMS technologies like WP a plus)
Experience working in fintech, consumer technology, or a data-driven environment is a plus
The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who can set technical direction, manage stakeholder expectations, and drive execution

What the job involves

We are seeking an Engineering Manager, Web Platform to lead, coach and mentor teams responsible for maintaining and modernizing our complex web architecture
In this role, you will manage balancing technical advancements with ongoing product demands, while ensuring we continue to deliver value to our users
This is a unique opportunity to work on a platform that impacts millions of users making critical financial decisions

You’ll be working in a collaborative, transparent, and mission-driven culture, where engineering excellence and innovation are at the core of everything we do
Lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Drive engineering best practices in software development, ensuring high code quality, scalability, and maintainability
Act as a technical leader, helping the team navigate architectural decisions and complex problem-solving
Identify and remove roadblocks to enhance team productivity and efficiency
Drive the design and development of scalable, high-quality software solutions that support SmartAsset’s mission
Oversee the evolution of our web platform, balancing technology modernization with meeting product roadmap requirements
Partner closely with product managers, and stakeholders to align engineering efforts with business objectives
Recruit, hire, onboard, and level up engineering talent
Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies, bringing insights to the team and business

SmartAsset serves as a resource cache and marketplace connecting consumers with financial advisors. This focus on digital resources is proving savvy, as trends in the advisory profession indicate more consumers are turning online for support and professional help. SmartAsset's approach therefore allows it to reach more than 100 million people each month.

SmartAsset has managed to modernize the process of locating clients for advisors - previously a slow and labour-intensive process - while also materially assisting its large number of low-income customers. This saw SmartAsset’s revenue grow by ten times over four years, and it seems likely to capitalize on a growing number of US citizens looking to manage their financial planning digitally.
