Role
Who you are
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Machine Learning, or a related field
- Strong data engineering principles familiar with technologies to store, query, process, and analyze data
- 5+ years experience implementing optimization, ML, or AI models
- Strong programming skills in languages like Python, C/C++, Java, or Go
- Experience driving novel insight through custom data analytics and machine learning
- Creative mind who can identify new and creative problems in addition to executing against known ones. Moreover, one that is able to organically apply the most appropriate technology to the given problem
- A passion for urban mobility, sustainable transportation, and the future of cities
Desirable
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- Experience with using mathematical programming solvers such as Gurobi, Xpress MP, CPLEX, or Google OR Tools in applications
- Prior experience with transportation systems, especially within aviation
What the job involves
- You will build the brain that powers Archer’s on-demand Urban Air Mobility (UAM) service
- You will have a unique opportunity to shape the intelligence layer of a revolutionary transportation network
- Design and implement decision-making engines that optimize aircraft routing, fleet allocation, and network responsiveness under dynamic demand and operational constraints
- Develop and deploy production-level optimization and machine learning models that operate in near real-time, directly impacting network efficiency and customer experience
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to translate complex business requirements into scalable, robust data science solutions
- Develop sophisticated simulation environments to test and validate algorithmic strategies, ensuring system reliability before real-world deployment
- Conduct deep-dive analyses to uncover strategic insights that will inform the product roadmap and long-term business strategy, presenting your findings to leadership
- Champion data science best practices and mentor other team members, helping to define the technical culture and standards for the group
Our take
With traffic, noise, and emissions becoming major challenges for urban life, Archer is building electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircrafts, led by its flagship model, Midnight, offering a cleaner, quieter alternative to traditional short-haul travel. The idea is simple: replace long car rides with quick, sustainable fluights that lift off vertically, fly over the gridlock, and help reduce urban pollution. It's a bold shift in transportation, but one that could meaningfully change how we navigate cities in the years ahead.
Midnight is designed to make these short flights practical, safe, and efficient. Its electric powertrain significantly reduce noise and emissions compared to helicopters (one of the biggest barriers to adopting urban air mobility at scale). However, eVTOLs face hurdles before becoming an everyday reality, including regulatory approvals, infrastructure build-out, and the operational testing needed to prove long-term safety and reliability. Archer is addressing these challenges with major manufacturing investment, deep engineering partnerships, and ongoing flight testing in the US and abroad.
Even with these barriers, Archer has been moving from success to success. The company is set to be the official air taxi provider for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. And its recent acquisition of Hawthorne Airport in LA will serve as both a launch site and an innovation hub for next-generation, AI-powered aviation operations. On the commercial side, Archer's partnerships with United Airlines and its growing international presence signal strong industry confidence. COmbines with newly expanded funding and successful long-range flight tests, Archer sure is a promising player in eVTOl aviation.
