Who you are
- 12+ years of professional experience, with 5+ years experience leading design teams
- Track record of delivering products that set a very high bar for user experience
- Experience working as a design leader on a product critical to the success of the company

What the job involves
- As part of Grammarly's productivity suite, you'll join the Superhuman team in shaping the future of email and communication
- Frame key design questions, decide an approach, and build a roadmap that works with our overall product strategy
- Continue to improve our core product through customer discovery, domain expertise, user feedback, and analytics
- The point of Superhuman is not just to grow as fast as possible. We are also here to build the most delightful and remarkable experiences that we can
- We could stop any product project at 80% without obvious impact on near-term business metrics
- But if we had done so to date, Superhuman would not be a beloved product. It would be like every other email app, and we would not be where we are today
- The Head of Design should push for this extra mile, and do the 20% that other companies would not do because it does not affect short-term outcome. This is key to our brand, and builds our product moat
- Build and iterate a detailed roadmap in partnership with our Head of Product and Head of Engineering
- Lead execution by managing scope, user experience, and timeline in partnership with our Head of Product and Head of Engineering
- Recruit, retain, and develop a diverse and AI-fluent team
- Lead with coaching, prioritization, and clear communication, modeling both AI mastery and Superhuman values
- Make AI a daily habit across planning, execution, and review processes
- Redesign top workflows with AI at the core, rapidly prototyping and iterating to drive customer impact
- Set and track standards for AI fluency as a core hiring and performance expectation
- Earn the right to scale the team by first maximizing what AI unlocks, hiring only when human creativity, judgment, or connection is truly essential
- Share and celebrate AI best practices, wins, and customer impact stories across the team and company
- You embed AI into daily workflows, rituals, and decision-making. You model fluency, curiosity, and visible use of AI to raise the bar for speed, quality, and customer impact
- You redesign experiences to create AI-native magic — delighting customers through faster, smarter, and more effective workflows that deliver measurable outcomes

From professional writing to everyday correspondence, effective communication is critical. Grammarly is an AI-powered writing assistant that helps people write clearly and without mistakes, checking spelling, grammar, and other potential pitfalls.
Grammarly was originally launched as a subscription service for students, although the platform has moved into the mainstream in the last decade. It went freemium in 2015 and now works across more than 500,000 applications and websites including email clients, enterprise software, and word processors. Paid tiers give users more tools beyond grammar and spelling checks to include things like word choice, sentence rewrites, tone adjustments, fluency, and formality level.
The company has been profitable since the beginning and now has a valuation of more than $13 billion, placing it among the 10 most valuable startups in the US. The AI writing assistant space is heating up, and Grammarly is hoping to defend its positions against offerings including Scalenut, Ginger and Microsoft's Editor by the release of its SDK, making it far easier to integrate Grammarly into other applications. So far this has been used in over 4,000 products and earned excellent ratings and increased user numbers of Grammarly's service.
