Who you are
- Currently enrolled in Law, Business Law, Compliance, or a related field
- Genuine interest in working in a fast-growing startup environment, ideally with some exposure to regulated industries (insurance, fintech, or similar)
- Basic understanding of legal topics such as contract law, data protection (e.g. GDPR), or consumer protection is a plus
- Structured, detail-oriented, and reliable - you deliver quality work, even when things move fast
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to break down complex legal questions into clear, practical outcomes
- Hands-on mentality with a proactive approach and willingness to take ownership of tasks early on
- You can explain legal topics in a way that non-lawyers understand and enjoy working directly with business stakeholders
- High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information responsibly
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in German and English
- Confident use of Google Workspace
- Interest in using AI tools for research and structuring work
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Legal Working Student to support our growing business with day-to-day legal questions across the company
- This position reports directly to our Legal Counsel and offers hands-on experience across a broad range of legal topics in a fast-growing, regulated startup environment
- You will work closely with teams across the business, supporting areas such as Operations, answering real questions about insurance contracts, policy terms, and customer-facing legal issues every day
- On top of that, you'll support Marketing, People, and other teams on compliance and commercial legal topics
- Act as a reliable go-to within the Legal & Compliance team for daily operational tasks such as research, template management, and internal guidance
- Support our Operations team on day-to-day legal questions - this includes advising Claims and Customer Success on topics such as insurance contract interpretation, policy coverage questions, customer complaints, and general contractual disputes
- Conduct structured legal research on a variety of topics (e.g. insurance law & regulation, contract law, data protection, consumer protection) and translate findings into clear, practical guidance
- Draft, review, and update commercial contracts, internal policies, and compliance documentation
- Maintain and improve our legal templates, playbooks, and internal knowledge base, helping us build scalable legal processes
- Collaborate cross-functionally with teams across the business to support legally sound decision-making in a fast-paced environment
Our take
Lassie is aiming to disrupt the pet insurance space with its preventative, mobile app-based insurance for dogs and cats. The idea is to make insurance easier for pet owners, collecting all their policy information in one accessible place, as well as supplying information for them to help their pets lead healthier lives.
Developed in close collaboration with veterinarians and animal care experts, the app gives users access to courses and tips tailored to the breed of their animal, including information on any conditions and diseases that are more prevalent in that breed. The insurance policies are provided by Dina Försäkring, with Lassie acting as an intermediary in that regard.
The pet insurance space is certainly ripe for innovation, with traditional policies often inadequate and confusing, and this is clear in the fact that Lassie is the highest rated pet insurance on Trustpilot. 2023 Series B funding is being used to develop Lassie’s team and products, such as its in-app sale of health products for pets, and expand beyond its core bases of Germany and Sweden.
