Role
Who you are
- 6+ years of engineering management experience with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams
- Proven experience managing remote and distributed engineering teams
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills with experience developing engineers at different career stages
- Experience working in dynamic startup environments with rapid growth and changing priorities
- Deep understanding of full-stack development and modern web architectures
- Hands-on experience with healthcare product development and understanding of healthcare workflows, especially around Ordering and Observations
- Knowledge of healthcare integration standards including FHIR, HL7, and related protocols and message types, including ORUs, ORMs,ServiceRequest, DeviceRequest, DeviceResponse, Observation, etc
- Experience with EMRs, such as Epic, Cerner, eCW, Athena, etc
- Understanding of healthcare data concepts such as orders, claims, eligibility, and patient records
- Experience with healthcare compliance requirements (HIPAA, SOC2, etc.)
- Experience leveraging AI-powered development tools such as v0.dev, Claude AI, ChatGPT, Cursor, and similar platforms
- Familiarity with low-code/no-code platforms and automation tools like n8n
- Passion for exploring and implementing emerging technologies to enhance team productivity
- Can-do attitude with a bias toward action and problem-solving
- Comfort with ambiguity and rapid change in a startup environment
- Strong ownership mentality and commitment to quality
- Collaborative approach to working across teams and functions

- We're seeking a hands-on Senior Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team in building and managing innovative products for Healthcare Providers and Employers

- As our Senior Engineering Manager, you'll be at the forefront of healthcare technology innovation, leveraging cutting-edge AI tools and modern development practices to accelerate product delivery and enhance team productivity
- You'll work closely with product teams and other engineering leaders to ensure our solutions meet the complex needs of healthcare organizations while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance
- Lead and mentor a globally distributed engineering team (onshore and offshore), fostering a culture of ownership, high quality, and continuous improvement
- Manage team performance, career development, and growth opportunities for engineers at all levels
- Drive technical excellence while maintaining team velocity and morale in a remote-first environment
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across time zones and cultural differences to keep the team aligned and productive
- Partner closely with product management to define technical roadmaps and prioritize feature development
- Ensure successful delivery of healthcare solutions for providers and employers, from conception to production
- Drive architectural decisions that support scalability, security, and healthcare compliance requirements
- Drive the adoption and integration of AI-powered development tools and low-code/no-code solutions to enhance team productivity
- Oversee full-stack development across web and mobile platforms, ensuring robust and scalable architectures
- Guide implementation of healthcare integrations and interoperability standards
- Establish and maintain engineering best practices, code quality standards, and testing protocols
- Stay current with emerging technologies and evaluate their potential impact on our products and processes
- Work closely with product, design, and clinical teams to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Collaborate with other engineering managers to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing across teams
- Participate in technical and strategic planning sessions with senior leadership
Our take
Mental health has accelerated as a topic in public discussion over the past decade, leading to the rise of products such as Calm and Headspace, promoting positive mental health through meditation and quality sleep. Big Health delivers digital therapeutics for the most prevalent mental health conditions, beginning with "Sleepio" for insomnia, and "Daylight" for anxiety.
There are many products competing to become part of our daily routine for sleep and mental well-being, with some taking a more scientific approach than others. Big Health's products are scientifically backed, with its main product Sleepio being proven to help for sleep and mental health. The company's main selling point is that goals are personalized as the product learns about each user, delivering unique experiences for different people.
Given the complexity of mental wellness, there should be plenty of space for new techniques/products for years to come, meaning that Big Health should be afforded plenty space to grow. The company has taken the approach of selling to businesses (so it can provide the product to its employees) - a smart strategy as individuals aren't yet used to spending large amounts on mental well-being.
