Role
Who you are
- +5 years experience with JavaScript (React or other modern JS frameworks)
- Experience building solid scalable services and well structured front-end applications
- Experience with integrating with diverse APIs
- Passionate about writing maintainable and elegant code
- Been working with Git, GitHub/Gitlab, and CI/CD
- A pragmatic person with a strong positive attitude
- Somebody who can work autonomously and overcome obstacles proactively
- Demonstrate curiosity and passion to continue learning
- Familiarity with backend concepts and technologies is a plus (authentication systems, databases, cloud)
What the job involves
- As an Engineer on the New User Experience team, you'll have a direct impact on delivering high-quality, scalable user-facing features
- You’ll be involved in crafting testing strategies and ensuring performant user experiences within a cross-functional team setup.Beyond your technical contributions, you'll play a key role in coaching Engineers on best practices and advocating for a strong technical culture across the company’s teams, ensuring our features are designed to scale and meet the highest standards of quality
- The New User Experience team focuses on creating a seamless and easy-to-use mobile and web product for first-time DIY tax filers
- Our goal is to make the tax experience simple and stress-free by addressing key customer needs throughout the tax filing journey
- We believe in Internal Open Source because it cultivates a strong spirit of collaboration and iterative development while maintaining a high standard of quality
- This way of working is made possible by using the universal language JavaScript, specifically using, React, React Native and NodeJS
- Everything on our backend runs in Docker—orchestrated by Kubernetes and powered by Google Cloud Platform
- We live our development values by learning from one another through internal meetups, hackathons, and close collaboration
- Collaborating with product management to work towards achieving the company’s and team’s goals
- Contribute to technical direction and strategy to further the long-term product vision
- Work on unblocking unique frontend challenges our product teams are facing to improve development speed and the user experience
- Create a great developer experience through good tools and practices that empower seamless delivery
- Be part of cross-functional teams, working closely with other platform and product teams
- Be involved in key product decisions and work closely with the whole team to create intuitive and reliable apps
- Mentor other engineers and support an environment that values development, growth, and a safe environment to raise challenges
Our take
For many people, filing taxes is still a painstaking, confusing and outdated process. In Germany alone, around 10 million people each year decide not to claim their tax return for this reason. Taxfix solves this problem by making it easier to file tax returns and claim rebates.
Taxfix serves as a personal tax accountant, something that many of its users can't afford or don't have access to. The app functions much like any chatbot, offering in-depth guidance and optimising the tax filing process. Users can typically file their taxes in under 20 minutes using the app, which will appeal to anyone looking to save time and effort on their personal finances. Taxfix is not alone in offering this sort of service, but it sets itself apart from rivals such as TurboTax thanks to its mobile-first approach.
The company has been well-served by its innovative and attractive app interface and acquired its German competitor Steuerbot in early 2023. With its European market covered by Berlin and Madrid offices, 2024 saw its entrance into the UK market by acquiring smaller competitor Taxscouts, establishing itself as the European leader in its sector.
