- While experience in payroll onboarding and SaaS is a plus, we are primarily looking for someone who can lead effectively, adapt quickly, and continuously seek ways to grow and improve
- A minimum of 3+ years of management experience, ideally within onboarding or implementation teams
- A proven ability to handle challenging conversations in a management role
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Outstanding communication skills, able to collaborate effectively across teams and departments
- Strong leadership capabilities, able to confidently lead across all levels of the organization
- Experience de-escalating both client and internal issues
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equal experience
- A background in new software rollouts and implementation
- A track record of quickly mastering new software and tools
What the job involves
- As a key leader in this role, you will be responsible for driving team success by amplifying talent and skills, ensuring a smooth onboarding experience for our clients
- You will focus on developing and retaining top talent, ensuring optimal utilization of headcount, and fostering an environment where the team thrives
- Lead a team of Onboarding Consultants in implementation of the Gusto platform for new customers
- Define, track, and report on key metrics that inspire the right behaviors and propel the team’s overall performance
- Design and continuously improve the payroll onboarding process to enhance efficiency and client satisfaction
- Lead discussions on compensation and career growth, contributing to the development and expansion of the department
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure they understand their role in the client journey and its impact on the overall experience
- Analyze and refine team processes regularly, implementing changes that drive increased efficiency
- Promote interdepartmental collaboration to support client retention and project management growth opportunities
- Identify and secure the necessary resources (Ops, Product, other departments) for the Payroll Implementation team, ensuring collaboration and alignment
- Uphold and protect our company culture, considering how decisions impact policies, practices, team morale, and customer satisfaction
- Develop and achieve goals aligned with the company’s vision and strategic initiatives
Our take
For many small businesses, vital administrative tasks such as payroll, taxes, and benefits are manual tasks that take time and energy which many SMB owners don’t have. The three co-founders of Gusto – all coming from small business backgrounds – collaborated on a Fintech company that would handle employee payments, benefits administration, and compliance support specifically for small businesses.
The company may have started slowly, as the founders focused on nailing each individual aspect of Gusto’s operations, but has now skyrocketed to unicorn status with more than 200,000 customers and a multi-billion dollar valuation. In 2021, Gusto began acquiring other companies to strengthen its offering and its position in a competitive market, including two other fintech startups, Ardius and Symmetry.
Through its continued acquisitions and fundraising efforts, the company has carved out a strong position for itself in the space. Although Gusto has found itself impacted by the macroeconomic situation, through the significant effect it has had on its clientele, the company still appears positive for the future after raising funds in 2023 that will see it reach key profitability benchmarks. It continues to consolidate its platform, for example by integrating with OpenComp to grant its users access to the company's Compensation Intelligence Platform.
