Who you are
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in a relevant field such as business, environmental studies, urban planning, public policy, or communications
- Must currently reside in New York State
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to stay organized across multiple tasks
- Interest in clean energy, climate tech, or electric mobility
- Experience with spreadsheets, CRM tools, or data scraping platforms is a plus
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced startup environment
What the job involves
- Voltpost is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Business Development Intern to support our growth efforts
- The intern will assist in developing outreach campaigns, sourcing and validating new funding opportunities, and supporting grant and request for proposal (RFP) research to help expand Voltpost’s impact across urban and rural markets
- You'll conduct contact acquisition and database management to support outreach efforts and partnership development
- Assist in developing and refining outreach campaigns and messaging for prospective partners, cities, and organizations
- Research and identify relevant grants, RFPs, and funding opportunities aligned with Voltpost’s mission
- Support the validation and organization of grant and RFP opportunities, including summarizing key eligibility requirements and deadlines
- Collaborate with the Business Development team to prepare outreach materials and track progress toward engagement goals
- Contribute to special projects as needed to support growth and partnerships
- Part-time position (approximately 15-20 hours per week)
Our take
Fast charging is one of the most practical ways of charging an electric vehicle, especially in the US where street parking is often the only option. The problem with fast charging is that the installation and maintenance of electric chargers is not cheap, and so the cost for the consumer is expensive. Voltpost is a company that is retrofitting old lampposts to facilitate electric vehicle charging appliances, thus lowering the price for consumers.
A New York outfit, Voltpost is going up against an increasing number of competitors. For example, both London and LA have undergone similar schemes partnering city departments with EV charging startups. That said, after a 10-month-long partnership with the New York City Department of Transportation, and technology center New Lab, Voltpost has gone some way towards NYCDOT’s goal to install 10,000 curbside charging points.
Off the back of this pilot scheme, Voltpost received $3.6 million in seed funding, indicating its success in the former. The company is pushing towards commercialization and product deployment with the funds.
