Role
Who you are
- You possess excellent analytical skills and can easily communicate complex financial information
- You have a very strong attention to detail and work through problems methodically
- You thrive on ownership, are goal-oriented, and ready for both creative and mundane tasks
- You are comfortable with numbers and commonly used BI tools & scripts e.g. Excel / Google Sheets / Tableau / SQL. Prior experience with financial modelling & Python is a big plus
- You have at least one prior experience in accounting, financial planning and analysis, controlling, or fast-paced environments such as venture capital, startups or equivalent
- You have a Bachelor's degree from a top tier university in a finance or data focused discipline (Masters is a plus)
- Located in Berlin is a plus
- You speak English fluently and can handle at least some German
- You are available for a 6 month internship
- You are interested in sustainability and want to be associated with climate action
What the job involves
- The Finance team is at the heart of SQUAKE’s financial & strategic decisions and our cross-functional work helps shape the priority within and direction of the company
- We are responsible for both, day to day accounting topics (e.g. invoice management, tax & compliance management, expense management, month-end closing) and controlling / reporting topics (e.g. PnL & investor reporting, cash flow management, BI dashboards, KPI monitoring). We help put meaning behind the numbers
- Drive the reporting and BI landscape within the company - collaborate with business & tech stakeholders to build BI frameworks and user-friendly dashboards
- Define & monitor financial metrics and KPIs to track performance against goals
- Manage invoicing related processes - both receivables and payables, handle month-end closing processes and regularly liaise with our tax accountant
- Deliver process optimization & automation of finance related processes
- Become a vital building block of an efficient & high performance Finance team

With the travel industry under increasing pressure to reduce its carbon footprint, decision-makers across the sector are struggling to come to grips with the data and transparency needed to make the necessary changes. The travel industry is unique in its complexity of information layers and Squake is a start-up attempting to tackle this problem.
Squake offers a logistics and sustainability solution for travel companies via its Application Programming Interface (API) plugin. The API can integrate into existing travel logistics systems and calculate the carbon outputs for any given activity or task via analysis of national and international standards. It can then provide solutions to offset and reduce the carbon impact of the activity.
Embedded across a travel company’s booking flow, Squake’s product is customisable as per the needs of their customer. With clients including Lufthansa (from whose innovation hub it was developed), ATG Travel, and Reed & Mackay, it’s working across a range of travel-focused companies, keeping its net suitably wide. In 2023, Squake received significant VC funding and plans to use this for technology R&D, new hires, and growth in strategic markets.
