Who you are
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Must be admitted to practice law in California or have the ability to obtain admission
- Minimum of 4+ years of experience as a commercial counsel or in a similar legal role, preferably within the technology or healthcare industry
- Strong knowledge of contract law and commercial transactions
- Excellent negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
What the job involves
- At Athelas, we are seeking a talented and dynamic Commercial Counsel to join our legal team.
- Our ideal candidate will be responsible for providing legal guidance and support on a wide range of commercial matters, including contracts, partnerships, and compliance.
- As a key member of our team, you will work closely with various departments to ensure that our business operations are legally sound and aligned with our strategic goals
- Review, negotiate, and draft a variety of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, customer agreements, partnership agreements, and licensing agreements
- Provide proactive legal advice to internal stakeholders on commercial matters, risk management, and compliance issues
- Ensure that Athelas’s commercial practices comply with relevant laws and regulations, including data privacy, intellectual property, and industry-specific regulations
- Assist in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures to mitigate legal risks and ensure compliance with applicable laws
- Collaborate with other departments, including sales, marketing, and product development, to support business objectives and address legal challenges

Today, healthcare providers are tackling the growing challenge of too much paperwork and too little time for patients. Many existing electronic health record (EHR) systems only add to the problem - digital, yes, but often too clunky, time-consuming, and disconnected from the tools doctors actually need. Athelas is tackling this by reimagining how healthcare software works, helping providers spend less time lcicking and more time caring for people.
Athelas offers a full suite of tools that combine AI-powered automation, remote patient monitoring (RPM), and integrated EHR and billing systems. By embedding revenue cycle management (RCM) and ambient AI documentation directly into the platform, Athelas AIR strreamlines everything from charting to billing. And the goal is simple, to reduce administrative burden, improve margins, and ultimately, give healthcare teams a smoother, smarter way to work.
The company has made some impressive strides lately too. After achieving unicorn status in 2022 and merging with healthcare software leader Commurein 2023, Athelas is now valued at around $6B. It has also partnered with organizations like Resilient HEalthcare to power at-home care programs, bringing hospital-level technology into patients homes. And with over 100 clients lined up to adopt Athelas AIR, the company is very much positioning itself as a leader in intelligent healthcare infrastructure.
