Who you are
- 3+ years of full-stack development experience building applications for enterprises and/or consumers. Strong preference for candidates who have worked in high-growth startup environments

What the job involves
- GovWell is hiring a Full-Stack Software Engineer to help build our core platform that powers faster, more efficient government services
- You’ll work across the stack — from frontend to backend — to design, build, and ship features that directly improve how governments operate and how residents access services.
- This role reports directly to our CTO and Co-Founder, Ben Cohen, and offers the opportunity to take ownership of critical product areas in a fast-growing company
- Build, test, and ship full-stack features across GovWell’s platform — from intuitive resident-facing interfaces to scalable backend services that power government workflows
- Collaborate closely with the Founding Designer and engineering teammates to translate customer needs into usable, high-impact product functionality
- Take ownership of product areas end-to-end, ensuring features are reliable, maintainable, and performant in real-world government environments
- Contribute to technical design discussions, code reviews, and best practices that strengthen the team’s engineering culture and velocity
- Use customer feedback and product data to iterate quickly, improving both resident experiences and government efficiency
Our take
Govwell creates software for planning and zoning within local governments, simplifying processes and modernising citizen services. With the intention of improving transparency, it is helping all sizes of government serve its communities better.
What stands out about GovWell’s workflow and automation technology is the fact that its platform is customisable. Government sectors, councils and organisations operate their tech in varying ways, and so GovWell serves these varying needs by allowing flexibility of use within its platform. This is facilitated by no-code tools to improve adaptability.
Ultimately, the platform helps local governments complete tasks in a fraction of the time. It’s a breath of fresh air in the sector, which isn’t known for its innovations, and GovWell has been smart to target this niche. It will channel recent funding into expanding its team, enhancing product development and accelerating growth.
