Role
Who you are
- You have at least 7 years of experience working with TypeScript
- You have at least 5 years of experience with React and Node.js
- You know how to make practical use of modern CSS (Media queries, CSS in JS, etc.)
- You have an excellent understanding of different data encryption techniques
- You have strong experience with version control systems (Git) and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
- You bring profound knowledge of security best practices in software development
- You’re experienced with build tools (web pack, npm scripts, lerna)
- You are proficient in building web-based desktop applications, preferably using Electron
- You have strong experience with crafting well-designed APIs
- You are confident in independently translating product requirements into technical specifications
- You can lead feature development from design to testing and finally deployment
- You have excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- You bring strong communication and collaboration skills and promote a collaborative environment
- You understand the value of unit tests and you are comfortable with TDD
- You can mentor other developers and nurture their development
What the job involves
- We are seeking an experienced Staff Engineer to join our Web Development department
- Reports to: Engineering Manager - Web
- You will help build the future of Wire and become a pioneer in transforming how organizations, governments, and people communicate securely. You work closely with the Product Team and interact with other client development teams regularly
- Lead the design and development of Wire’s Web and Desktop application, ensuring a seamless and engaging user experience, while not compromising on security
- Enhance and architect a scalable and maintainable front-end using React and TypeScript, setting standards for code quality and best practices
- Drive the adoption and integration of the latest web technologies (Web Workers, WebRTC & Web Assembly) to enhance the performance, security and responsiveness of our applications
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and continuous learning
- Spearhead initiatives to implement cutting-edge technologies and open standards (like MLS) that ensure private and secure communications
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and senior developers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and other development teams, to translate complex product requirements into robust technical solutions
- Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of feature development, from initial design through testing and deployment, ensuring high standards of quality and performance
- Drive innovation and technical strategy to keep Wire at the forefront of secure communication and user-friendly technology
