Who you are
- You are a product-minded builder, a systems thinker, and a passionate advocate for quality and consistency
- You understand that a mature design system is the single most important lever to pull to unlock massive gains in productivity, improve user experience, and create a predictable, machine-readable environment where AI tools like Claude Code and Cursor can thrive
- A Seasoned Engineer: You have 4+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on front-end architecture and full-stack capabilities
- A Design System Expert: You have proven, hands-on experience leading the development of a design system from concept to production at scale. You can point to a library of components you have built and are proud of
- Technically Fluent: You possess expert-level knowledge of modern web technologies, including React, TypeScript, CSS-in-JS (or similar), Storybook, and Figma. You are also proficient with backend technologies like Node.js, GraphQL, or Python
- Passionate About Quality: You have an incredible eye for detail and a deep commitment to accessibility (WCAG), performance, and writing clean, maintainable code
- A Systems Thinker: You excel at abstracting complexity into simple, elegant, and reusable patterns. You think in terms of systems, not one-off solutions
- An Excellent Communicator: You can articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. You build consensus and inspire others to adopt new standards

What the job involves
- The Opportunity: Architecting the Future of UI Development
- You will have the autonomy and resources to own our design system from the ground up
- Your work will directly empower our product teams to build higher-quality features faster and will be the critical enabler for our strategy of leveraging AI to instantly translate design specs into pixel-perfect, production-ready code
- Architect & Build: Design, build, and maintain a robust, scalable, and accessible library of reusable front-end components in React/TypeScript
- Establish a "Token Economy": Implement and govern a comprehensive system of design tokens (colors, typography, spacing, etc.) that ensures consistency across all platforms (web, mobile)
- Full-Stack Integration: Develop backend APIs, services, and tooling necessary to support the design system, such as asset pipelines, documentation servers, and versioning management
- Govern & Evangelize: Create crystal-clear documentation, contribution guidelines, and decision-making frameworks. Act as the primary advocate for the design system, driving adoption across all engineering, design, and product teams
- Optimize for AI Consumption: Structure component APIs, props, and documentation with the explicit goal of making them easily understandable and usable by AI code generation tools. You will define the "language" our AI assistants speak
- Tooling & Automation: Own the entire lifecycle of the design system's infrastructure, including our Storybook instance, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines for publishing and versioning components
- Collaborate & Lead: Partner closely with senior leadership in Product Design and Engineering to define the roadmap for the design system and ensure it aligns with the company's strategic goals. Mentor other engineers on best practices for component design and system thinking

ServiceNow now looks to increase its revenue threefold in upcoming years and has entered into a 5-year partnership plan with Visa, beginning with the launch of a Visa-integrated dispute resolution solution for issuers. The company is prioritising organic growth over mergers and acquisitions, with a target revenue of $15 billion, something which its Visa partnership will no doubt aid in achieving.
