What the job involves

  • Engineering at Paratus serves both internal and external users. This is a totally new insurance product and as such is complex and challenging to build and operate, as well as being fascinating, especially if you're interested in the economics of energy.
  • You’ll be working alongside finance experts as well as engineers as we bring our revolutionary energy price risk insurance products to market. You’ll work on every aspect of our applications, which power pricing and transactions for our insurance products - including infrastructure-as-code, business logic and the presentation layer. We don’t expect you to be familiar with all our technologies, but you should have learned more than one language in the past, plus you will have to learn - and we’ll be there to support you.
  • Our pricing engine involves some financial mathematics and we also provide financial analysis, which is mostly statistics, so you’ll need some maths and stats. You'll do some work in Excel.
  • You’ll be reporting to our Engineering Lead. Your first week will be focused on setting up your development environment and getting everything running, which should give you an overview of our application. By the end of your first month we expect you to complete a feature and learn how our product works, and by the end of your first quarter you’ll have completed a major piece of functionality - although not necessarily on your own. To support you with this you’ll have regular check-ins with your manager as well as working closely with other engineers and areas of the business. It’s a small company, so you’ll have access to everyone straight away. We’ll help you understand the company and its products, where you can have the most impact, and spend some time thinking about what will help you most in your career.

Application process

  • 1. Apply via Otta
  • 2. Screener call with Engineering Lead (20 mins)
  • 3. Technical exercise + discussion with Technical Lead (2 hours + 1 hour)
  • 4. Behavioural interview with Engineering Lead + Software & Ops Lead (1 hour)
  • 5. Final interview with CIO + CEO (30 mins)
