Role
Who you are
- You have a passion for people and a proven track record of managing Data Scientists and/or ML Engineers. You work to see your team and individuals grow and deliver great business solutions
- You bring a strong background in Data Science and/or ML for predictive modeling, fraud detection, and/or credit risk analysis, ideally in an eCommerce context
- You are proficient in Python and SQL and have experience with cloud-based ML infrastructure (e.g., AWS SageMaker, Azure Machine Learning, Vertex)
- You enjoy designing and optimizing your team’s processes to maximize efficiency. You are comfortable stepping into technical discussions and attending important stakeholder meetings to remove roadblocks, allowing the team to stay focused and move forward
- You enjoy the scale-up setting, adapting quickly, and delivering measurable value for the customers and the business
- You have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (our company language) with both technical and commercial stakeholders
- You deeply care about individuals as human beings, their inclusion, and their psychological safety

What the job involves
- To continue this incredible adventure, we are currently looking for a motivated Sr. Data Science Manager full-time for our Data team at our Berlin HQ (hybrid - min 2 days a week)
- Joining our Data Science Team puts you at the forefront of advancing Grover’s customer-centricity and decision-making inspired by predictive insights
- You will become part of a passionate team of leaders representing all areas of Data
- Your closest collaborator will be the product manager supporting the Data Science Team, and your main stakeholder groups will be Risk & Fraud, Product and Commercial
- You will directly report to the Head of Data
- You are responsible for the delivery and outcomes of the Data Science Team
- You foster an environment in which data scientists and machine learning engineers perform at their best and grow both as individuals and as a team
- You do so by ensuring each team member is clear on what we expect and how they can grow, ensuring our processes help rather than stand in the way, and ensuring we build high-quality models that solve real business problems
- Lead a team of 5 international people (3 Data Scientists, 2 ML Engineers) fostering growth and excellence
- Own Grover’s credit risk and fraud detection models, ensuring reliability and continuous improvement
- Guide the team in adopting MLOps best practices
- Expand our Data Science roadmap by identifying and driving new high-impact use cases (e.g., Customer Lifetime Value prediction, churn prediction). Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Risk, and Finance teams to align solutions with business objectives
- Drive a customer-centric and solution-oriented mindset
- Represent data science and ML in key initiatives and projects within the Data Division and across the company
- Advocate for data-inspired decision-making across the organization
Our take
Purchasing tech items like mobile phones and laptops can be cost-heavy and are not always affordable. People often have to plan around such purchases; the costs are unavoidable as they represent essential investments. Furthermore, the life cycle of products usually begins and ends with one user, which is not always optimized for sustainability.
Grover tackles these existing issues by offering a subscription service to tech products where customers can rent products on a rolling monthly basis. Through its flexible approach, the company aims to reach a wide target audience by increasing access to tech products as well as maximizing the value of these items by reducing waste and increasing their circulation.
Originally founded in Berlin, Grover has expanded its services to America, helping it achieve a 354% Year On Year growth. In 2022, the company opened a Miami headquarters, expanded its US team, and achieved 5.9 million visitors to its website. All of this combined signals the company's ripeness for expansion, whilst an impressive $50 million VC investment awarded in 2024 will accelerate a sustainable trajectory of growth.
