Who you are
- The Merchant Interfaces team within Decisions Foundations is growing and we are looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager with a track record of leading high performing teams
- We are looking for a highly motivated engineering manager to join us to help fulfill our vision
- 4-6+ years of experience as a software engineer with leadership responsibilities and 3+ years as an engineering manager managing high performing engineering teams
- Passion for working with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, Analytics and Business teams
- Expert at synthesizing complex business, product, and technical requirements to consistently produce high quality system designs and software
- Humble and authentic leadership which places the needs of others first and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible
- Experience scaling systems in a service oriented architecture preferred but not required
- This position requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
What the job involves
- You will lead a fast paced team which is responsible for the APIs that Merchants use to integrate with Affirm, and also power some of our top partners like Amazon and Stripe
- The work will be challenging due to the speed at which the market is growing, and the work involved will directly impact the growth trajectory of the Affirm merchant network
- Manage a team focused on building and scaling merchant and partner apis, providing technical leadership for the team, while having a detailed understanding of our business, company goals, roadmap and resource plans
- Drive planning and prioritization of projects based on product, technical, and business goals by leveraging relevant resources and data
- Build relationships with people across engineering and other organizations to jointly make decisions necessary to deliver to a high-quality, reliable, robust product and service
- Coach and mentor employees to increase their impact through regular performance development and feedback conversations
- Foster a respectful and supportive environment for all team members that effectively leverages the diversity of the team

Affirm offers point-of-sale loans to consumers, working with merchants like Shopify, KAYAK, and Walmart. Buy now, pay later transactions have grown in popularity in recent years, and this business is tapping into the market with a totally different approach to credit - by delivering the Affirm card, the first US debit card with the option to pay-over-time.
Boating over 15 million customers and 245,000+ merchants, the company offers flexible payback options, ranging from 3 to 36 months. The interest rates run between 0% and 30%, so, while they are not necessarily the cheapest option, Affirm prides itself on having no fees for late payments, no hidden charges, and total transparency about what people will pay before they take out a loan.
Affirm collects payments from the customers and pays the merchants directly, shouldering the risk itself. The company has boosted its market share, expanding its availability beyond the US to include most of Canada, and continues to launch new features and create new partnerships towards bettering its offering.
