Who you are
- 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction
- 8+ years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks
- 5 years of experience with design and architecture, and testing/launching software products
- Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Ray
- Experience with container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes
- Experience with networking, storage, and database technologies
- Proven experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Java/Kotlin, Python, or C/C++

What the job involves
- Zoox is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to spearhead the development of its metrics platform, which is crucial for developing and validating the autonomy and operational systems of our robotaxi service
- The Senior Staff Engineer will be responsible for defining and guiding the architectural evolution aimed at unifying and optimizing the experience of developing and maintaining metrics throughout the organization
- This role involves close collaboration with numerous teams across the company to facilitate and expand their work on essential metrics, encompassing autonomy safety, capability, comfort, fleet operational efficiency, and more
- Design and implement highly scalable and reliable systems to enable accurate and efficient metrics development and maintenance
- Develop a technical strategy and roadmap with clear goals, outcomes, and timelines to guide technical investments across all teams contributing to the metrics platform
- Lead efforts to optimize systems for performance, scalability, and reliability
- Ensure project execution and delivery
- Influence and coach a team of engineers, promoting best practices
Our take
Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.
It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.
The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, is building a Zoox factory and budgeting $1 billion per year for future development and production.
