2+ years professional Rust experience or 5+ yrs professional C/C++ experience
Experience in designing, implementing, scaling, and shipping production distributed and data systems

Ideally, experience contributing to open-source projects
Experience with Apache infra, CNCF-stack, or cloud-native development, and ideally with Rust/Golang

What the job involves

We’re looking for a Principal Rust Software Engineer to contribute to ML, GenAI, RAG, and agent development in Spice.ai OSS
In this role, you’ll design and build high-performance AI features in Spice.ai, libraries like mistral-rs, and enterprise solutions including NVidia NIM (Spice AI was recently accepted into the NVidia Inception program)
Work side-by-side with the founders as a leader and outstanding contributor in the Spice.ai open-source project
Contribute to designing and building the Spice.ai Cloud Platform, and data platforms
Take ownership of initiatives to improve our offerings and deliver exceptional developer experiences
Your first month - ramp up and contribute meaningful improvements to the Spice.ai OSS project
30-60 days - take technical and engineering ownership of an entire feature area
60-90 days - propose and execute on aligned technical strategy going forward

Our take

Integrating AI and machine learning into applications remains tricky for developers. In spite of remarkable developments in both fields, a general skills gap means they’re not broadly deployed in the design of intelligent software. This looks likely to become a real pain point going forward, as demand for truly intelligent systems is on the rise - which is why Spice AI is developing a platform to help remedy this.

The company's platform consists of an open source decision engine, and pooled ‘ML-ready’ data, which in sum allow professional developers to more easily build machine learning and AI into their software. The platform also comes with ready-made ML building blocks available through Spicerack.

Funding for Spice AI comes from impressive players, like senior executives at HitHub and Microsoft Azure, as well as major VC firms like Madrona Venture Group and Founders’ Co-Op. This indicates strong confidence in the company's mission to help the AI software market reach its anticipated multi-billion dollar stature over the years ahead.
