Role

Who you are

  • Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a focus on AI/Computer Vision
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the design and deployment of AI models, particularly deep learning and computer vision
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or other programming languages
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras)
  • Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Proven track record of solving complex problems with real-world data
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

Desirable

  • Publications or a strong portfolio of projects in computer vision or related fields
  • Knowledge and practical experience with LLM and VLM, including customization and deployment of such models
  • Knowledge of GPU programming and optimization
  • Experience with deploying AI solutions on mobile devices or embedded systems
  • Experience with 3D computer vision and sensor fusion

  • We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior AI/Computer Vision Engineer to join our dynamic team
  • As a key contributor to our research and development efforts, you will play a pivotal role in designing and building robust computer vision systems that can perceive, comprehend, and act upon the world around them
  • The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of machine learning, neural networks, and computer vision techniques, along with a passion for tackling complex problems and creating market-leading products
  • He AI and CV team at Caper (Instacart) is dedicated to building state of the art solutions to enable a smooth checkout process in the grocery stores with smart carts
  • Our team of enthusiastic researchers and engineers are spread across different time zones, but collaborate effectively with each other on multiple exciting projects
  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of computer vision algorithms that are effective and efficient
  • Develop VLM (Vision-Language Model) and/or deep learning models for object detection,tracking and recognition, activity recognition, scene understanding etc
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI/Computer Vision technology into our products and solutions
  • Conduct research and track the latest advancements in the AI field to ensure our technology remains cutting-edge
  • Mentor junior engineers and lead by example, promoting a culture of technical excellence
  • Drive the end-to-end machine learning lifecycle, including data collection, model training, evaluation and deployment
  • Troubleshoot and optimize AI systems for performance and scalability
  • Document and present research findings and development processes

Our take

Instacart is an online grocery marketplace that operates a pick-up and delivery system in the US and Canada. Unlike standard grocery shopping, Instacart sends a “personal shopper” to your local store to buy your products, who then delivers them straight to your door on the same day via their own car. The company also supplies the Instacart Platform, with services for stores encompassing eCommerce, fulfilment, in-store, ads, and insights.

The increased modernization of society has meant more than ever that consumers are looking to buy their groceries online, making space for apps like Instacart to become daily life staples for years to come. Although the company must compete with other grocery store delivery services, such as Walmart’s own, it has expanded to cover large percentages of US and Canadian households, and is now aligned with over 900 retail banners across more than 75,000 locations.

Instacart's software offerings signify the company's focus on tech, designed to move it away from its dependence on the gig economy. To this end, the company has acquired FoodStorm, an order management system that powers end-to-end order-ahead and catering, integrating its technology into its enterprise suite. Despite an IPO in September 2023, market downturns have necessitated a 7% workforce cut in 2024, focused on middle management and creating a flatter organisational structure.
