Role
Who you are
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related degree or equivalent practical experience
- Minimum 2 years as an EM and/or 6+ years relevant industry experience
- Deep technical competency and subject matter experience in relevant technical area(s)
- Deep knowledge of Python/Django, Javascript/Typescript, and React
- Experience in a high-traffic environment
- Extensive experience with RestAPIs and MySQL
- Exposure to iOS and Android native technologies
- Exceptional communicator and trusted to represent the team internally and externally as required
- Ability to motivate, mentor, empower and support other team members
What the job involves
- As a Manager at GIPHY you will be responsible for building, managing, mentoring and leading a highly talented team within our engineering organization
- This is a leadership position so you must possess the experience and technical know-how to mentor and empower your team to build solid, highly scalable solutions and experiences that meet Shutterstock's high standards
- Oversees and manages the execution of the team’s objectives and goals while ensuring these objectives and goals are very clear, well understood, and communicated
- Ensures the team is operating effectively, efficiently and with a strong positive team culture
- Drives ideation, innovation, scoping, prioritization and other critical activities within the team
- Maintains sense of ownership and responsibility for and drives improvements in all systems under the team's remit, including but not limited to reliability, alerting, monitoring, ease of use, user experience, quality, code quality, security, stability, performance and/or scalability
- Has a strong understanding of the technologies in use by their team and a deep understanding in the architecture of all systems and services within the team including any upstream/downstream dependencies
- Ensures the team is operating within best practices for their domain, and following, defining and improving key processes
- Helps define and shape the future vision, strategy and roadmap of the team and helps influence the wider vision, strategy and roadmap across the wider group
- Maintains a deep awareness of their team, senses and responds to current and future challenges. Coaches and supports team members. Favors pro-active engagement vs reactive
- Works closely and communicates clearly and effectively with all stakeholders
- Maintains positive working relationships with all teams related to their domain. Builds and maintains a strong and successful network both within the organization and externally, as required
- Continuously motivates, empowers, mentors, supports and guides team to achieve a higher level of performance. Focuses on both improving against the teams objectives as well as individual career growth for team members
