- You began your career in management consulting, investment banking, investing or another high speed environment where you developed strong business acumen, analytical abilities, high quality execution, and executive communication skills
- You have worked in high-growth environments where you have solved a variety of complex and ambiguous challenges and drove outsized outcomes
- You have worked closely with c-suite executives
- You have worked closely with diverse stakeholders across different business functions, including highly technical and/or scientific teams
- You have experience within biopharma, biotech, or health care
- You have strong verbal and written communication skills, experience presenting to and developing content for executive and c-suite audiences
- You are highly proficient in using SQL and advanced Excel for business analytics and modeling, and have demonstrated the ability to quickly learn new technologies and tools on the job
- You have strong attention to detail when it comes numbers and don’t need someone to “check your work” to get it right
What the job involves
- We’re building a team of high-impact operators who will help build and scale the operational backbone of the company, solve new and ambiguous problems, and act as positive change agents to build the tech and AI driven pharma company of the future
- As a member of the Business Operations & Strategy team, you will lead both ongoing company processes and ad-hoc initiatives that drive the company vision and strategy forward
- Lead strategic planning and goal setting at the company, developing novel approaches to bridge the differences in planning cadence between the pharmaceutical and technology industries
- Identify, frame, and solve our most important strategic and operational challenges; removing blockers and unproductive friction on the path towards our company vision
- Lead cross-functional and strategic initiatives to create new processes and business functions as the company scales its portfolio; this could be building something from 0 to 1, or breaking down and rebuilding something that needs to change
- Partner with functional leaders to define KPIs, implement business analytics, and make data-driven decisions to improve business performance
- Prepare materials used by the executive team and board of directors to make strategic decisions; you’re not just creating content, but also providing a strong point of view
- Drive the adoption of AI and other new technology in the most impactful ways for our business, which may require redesigning ways of working from first principles
Our take
Clinical drug trials are lengthy and expensive, delaying the supply of vital new drugs to patients and costing lives. For Formation Bio, this is an efficiency issue - one which it hopes to solve with its end-to-end automation solution.
According to the company, its approach has teams running medical trials twice as fast and at half the cost. This success has pushed Formation to expand beyond supporting trials into developing assets itself. In 2025, it reached a major milestone by licensing its first drug - a late-stage JAK/SYK inhibitor - to Sanofi in a deal worth up to hundreds of millions. Alongside this, the company has also added an early immunology program to its pipeline, signaling a broader push into in-house development.
Now a Unicorn, with partners including Pfizer, Sanofi, Novartis and 23andMe, Formation Bio is steadily embedding itself within the Big Pharma ecosystem. How far it can go remains an open question, but the prospect of cheaper drugs and faster innovation is becoming harder for the industry to ignore.
