Who you are
- You are a law student with strong problem-solving skills and careful attention to detail. You’re excited by the intersection of law, music, media, and business, and you want direct exposure to how in-house legal teams structure, negotiate, and operationalize real-world deals. If you’re looking for substantive experience reviewing agreements, supporting live transactions, and collaborating across business functions, this role is for you
- Current law student (rising 2L or 3L preferred)
- Interest in entertainment law, music law, media, or commercial deal structures
- Experience reviewing contracts or legal documents (coursework or prior internships acceptable)
- This internship is based out of our Brooklyn, NY office, required to be in-person Tuesday through Thursday
- Must to be able to attend the internship from June 2nd through August 7th

What the job involves
- As a Legal Intern, you will sit within the Legal team and support cross-functional workflows across the enterprise. You will work closely with business stakeholders and gain exposure to live deals and operational legal processes
- Summarizing and analyzing agreements, including distribution agreements, music licenses, and enterprise partnership contracts
- Supporting music licensing and clearance workflows
- Tracking approvals and maintaining internal deal databases across departments
- Assisting with contract intake, organization, and document management
- Supporting live deals by preparing summaries, issue spot lists, and status updates
- You will gain exposure to real-world contract review, deal structuring considerations, and the legal-business interface that drives a modern music and media company
- As an intern at UMT, you are an integrated member of the team. You’ll spend 10 weeks ( gaining the kind of "hands-on" experience that actually moves the needle

Our take
Music distribution services provide ways for musical artists to release their music in both digital and physical formats. However, musicians usually don't retain the often lucrative rights to audio masters and audience insights, and merchandising and concert tickets must be organised elsewhere.
UnitedMasters is a music distribution service that acts as a direct pipeline for musicians and their commercial efforts. The service allows users to retain the rights to audio masters and audience data, in addition to providing a platform for the sale of merchandise and concert tickets. The platform’s aim is to give artists full control over the monetization of their music based on a regular subscription cost.
UnitedMasters has attracted significant backing from heavyweights like Apple, a16z, and Alphabet, while securing partnerships with platforms like Bose, TikTok, and Twitch. More than just validation, these relationships expand how artists can be discovered, promoted and monetized at scale - opening doors to major commercial and record deal opportunities that go well beyond the reach of traditional distribution platforms.
