What the job involves
- We’re hiring a VP of Marketing to drive demand generation among 500+ target accounts and build a brand that continues to stand out. The position is based in New York and reports to the CEO
- We’re looking for a leader who lives in the details, obsesses with winning, and has experience managing marketing in software companies that won their markets.
- You will join an excellent leadership team, own the company’s go-to-market motion, manage a high-performing team, and establish Unit as a category leader. For the right candidate, this is a rare opportunity to solve hard problems and help build an industry-defining company from the ground up
- Define the company’s 500+ target account list, brand and go-to-market strategy
- Partner with the CEO and sales / marketing teams on planning, tracking and improving our go-to-market results: signed deals, booked meetings and awareness among buyers
- Manage and develop a world-class marketing function that owns our website, content + SEO, product marketing, paid marketing, communications, sales enablement and events
Our take
Financial services are becoming increasingly vital for modern businesses, but building them is a lengthy, complex and often expensive process. Unit exists to make this easy, letting companies provide cards, bank accounts and payment products through its banking-as-a-service platform.
Embedded financial services are popular, as companies look for ways to attract customers with easy payment options and branded payments cards. Unit seeks to differentiate itself by providing a flexible, white label solution, that allows its customers to simply embed Unit's offerings within their product with easy API integrations. This has gained it a large and growing customer base including the likes of Homebase and Wingspan.
Unit's valuation exceeded $1 billion at its last fundraise in 2022, making it the first unicorn in the banking-as-a-service space. It is using this funding for product development, most recently moving into issuing charge cards. While this may bring it into competition with heavyweight incumbents Brex and Ramp, Unit's solution is more cost-effective and flexible for smaller companies and ties in with its existing offering. Despite lay-offs in 2024, Unit is well on its way to its goal of becoming a name ubiquitous among businesses while being unknown to the end user.
