Role
Who you are
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior data science role within a large, complex tech company
- Strong expertise in statistical analysis, basic machine learning, and predictive modeling
- Proficient in Python and familiar with data science libraries (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn)
- Fluency using distributed SQL query engines like Hive, Presto, or Trino
- Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)
Desirable
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics)
- Knowledge of domain-specific analytics (Web hosting, WordPress development)
What the job involves
- Automattic is looking for a Staff Data Scientist to be a technical leader at our globally distributed company
- You’ll lead a centralized data science team focused on the development and implementation of advanced data models and analyses
- The team will work hand-in-hand with analysts and engineers embedded in our diverse business units to translate data insights into actionable strategies that have real impact
- You’ll set the technical direction, guide the execution, and ensure the quality of data science and analytics across the entire company
- Lead the development and implementation of advanced data analysis algorithms and statistical models across multiple business units
- Design and drive company-wide data initiatives, shaping the direction of data analytics and insights to support strategic decisions
- Mentor and guide junior data scientists and analysts
- Collaborate with senior management and cross-functional teams to leverage data to drive company-wide impact
- Communicate complex data-driven insights and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders, facilitating data-driven decision making at the highest levels of the company
