Who you are
- We're looking for an Accountant, interested in working at the intersection of sustainability and software
- A completed vocational training as an Accountant (“Finanzbuchhalter”), a Bachelor/Master degree is a plus
- Work experience in accounting for 3-5 years
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards (HGB, IFRS) and tax regulations
- Handling of tax and VAT requirements reliably and independently
- Very good knowledge and experience in bookkeeping programs, preferably DATEV (Rechnungswesen) and with spend management platforms like Payhawk, Candis or Spendesk
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while being diligent, with a strong attention to details
- Ability to work cross functionally and liaise with different departments

What the job involves
- As an Accountant you will report to our Finance & Operations Lead
- We are looking for someone to:
- Process and track all payments
- Own payroll processing
- Conduct month-end closing procedures
- Account assignment and posting of current business transactions (AP, AR, Bank)
- Prepare and submit quarterly VAT reports (UStVA)
- Prepare and post additional journal entries (accruals, deferrals, reclassifications)
- Monthly account reconciliation (Bank, Payhawk, pRAP, OPOS)
- Support financial forecasting and projections
- Prepare monthly financial reporting

The EU’s Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation means that 75% of European companies across the EU and U.K. reported their environmental footprint in 2023. That represents a massive opportunity for startups like Plan A that deliver B2B monitoring services of companies’ sustainability indicators.
The startup is hoping to distinguish itself in a market that is now saturated with services, some of which offer little practical benefit. Plan A's B Corporation certification demonstrates that its tools comply with the strictest reporting standards and reflect the latest developments in climate science.
The company is planning to furnish its product to become best in class, focusing on decarbonisation tooling and the tricky Scope 3 calculations for various industries. While decarbonisation via offsetting can be a lucrative area, Plan A must be careful not to encourage compensation measures for avoidable emissions as this could delegitimise its ESG reporting system and undercut the benefits of using its platform.
