Who you are
- The ideal candidate will have strong financial acumen and the ability to present insights and recommendations to senior leaders in a concise form to shape key business decisions
- 7+ years of experience in financial planning, analysis, and business strategy. A mix of management consulting, business operations, and financial roles is preferred
- B.A. or B.S. in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field (MBA or CPA is a plus)
- Proven experience in P&L management, revenue forecasting, and financial modeling. Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial reporting tools
- Advanced level of SQL expertise required to be self sufficient in extracting, analyzing and reporting out on summarized data structures
- Strong strategic and critical thinking skills with the ability to synthesize financial data and make recommendations that drive business outcomes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders and senior leadership
- Strong leadership abilities and the capacity to influence decision-making across the organization
- Proactive and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and innovative environment, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams

What the job involves
- The Associate Principal, Strategic Finance & Analytics, CBO Org role will be responsible for partnering with the business across all aspects of growth, analytics, and strategy within the CBO Finance organization - and will work closely with members of the supply, quality, product, and finance leadership teams
- This role will work directly with senior leadership to provide actionable insights and financial guidance for the business
- The Associate Principal in SFA within the CBO org acts as a critical finance and strategy leader working cross-functionally to drive financial planning and analysis, tracking performance across CBO priorities
- The role supports senior leadership with actionable insights, rigorous financial analysis, and strategic recommendations that impact growth and profitability in the host-facing supply and partnership areas aligned with the CBO’s mission
- Budget Tracking & Approvals: Own tracking and approval of requests of all teams’ budgets, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with organizational priorities. Proactively monitor expenditures, review budget submissions, and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to ensure requests are properly documented and justified. Provide timely updates and reporting to leadership, helping maintain fiscal discipline and support strategic decision-making
- Annual & Quarterly Planning: Collaborate with business partners to manage the annual and quarterly planning process, ensuring alignment on both financial and strategic goals and performance
- Optimize Operating Processes: Partner with key stakeholders to define, lead, and improve operating processes such as business reviews, financial reporting, and strategic forecasting
- Strategic Initiatives: Lead or support strategic projects to improve financial outcomes, optimize operational efficiency, and ensure long-term growth. Ensure strategic and product initiatives ladder up to the overall business P&L to ensure initiatives align with business objectives
- Insights & Analytics: Provide actionable financial insights through detailed reporting and analytics. Partner with Data Science teams to enhance data accessibility, automation, and conduct in-depth financial investigations
- Business Trends & Variance Analysis: Analyze business trends and drivers of variance, synthesizing complex data into actionable insights for senior leadership
- Presentations to Leadership: Regularly present financial reports, performance updates, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and other key stakeholders
Our take
When Airbnb was originally founded, the product helped customers book air mattresses on people's apartment floors. Since then, Airbnb has had over a billion customers hosted through its platform. With more than 4 million registered hosts worldwide, it has grown into a major player in the hospitality sector.
Airbnb has been successful in disrupting the traditional holiday lettings sector. Before it existed accommodation was limited to hotels and bed and breakfasts, but Airbnb has mainstreamed the idea of renting out spare rooms or even entire homes. It has created a new sector of hosts purchasing properties to rent out on the platform and provides a level of flexibility and a range of offerings not previously possible for travelers.
Perhaps a victim of its own success, by 2022 supply of Airbnb-listed properties began to outstrip demand in some markets, as hosts overestimated the appetite for domestic travel. However, the company is still posting strong financials and has unveiled new tools to support its hosts in a tougher rental market. With a healthy bottom line and a huge user base, Airbnb is very likely to overcome the current market turbulence and continue its growth.
