Role
Who you are
- We are looking for a patent litigator with excellent judgment and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to handle the day-to-day progress of patent cases. You will be a self-starter who can quickly learn Apple's patent litigation docket and practices, identify, and manage risks and exposures, and find strategic opportunities for resolution
- 4+ years of major law firm and/or in-house patent litigation experience
- JD or equivalent and admission to at least one US state bar
Desirable
- Strong technology interest and aptitude
- Excellent communication, analytical, organization, and negotiation skills are essential
- Preference given to candidates who have broad patent experience, including experience in a variety of venues and trial experience
What the job involves
- As a part of our Legal group, you’ll help uphold Apple’s high ethical and corporate standards, as well as defend our intellectual property
- You’ll help provide legal support for all our products and businesses across the globe
- Working for a company that invents entire categories and industries means you’ll be challenged to creatively apply your deep legal expertise to rare and often unexplored aspects of the law. Together with your team, you’ll provide the critical support needed worldwide for all Apple products and businesses
- As a member of Apple's patent case management team, you will not be merely monitoring outside counsel
- Rather, you will be directly engaged in formulating and driving strategy as well as providing counsel to internal clients on patent litigation matters and issues
- The position requires a high degree of self-sufficiency, independent judgment, and a trial-focused approach
- You will operate as part of a supportive and fun team of lawyers, legal specialists and support staff who work closely together to protect Apple's interests

Our take

Since taking over at Apple, Tim Cook has been carefully curating the company's reputation as a champion of consumer privacy, trying to set the company apart from others that monetise their users' data.
The company even went as far as to introduce sweeping privacy changes which made it difficult to tailor ads to Apple’s 1bn+ iPhone users. This rocked the $400bn digital ads market, seriously harming the revenue of its bigger rivals in the lucrative industry and forcing them to rebuild their ad infrastructure.
Despite this, the company has been shaken by supply chain issues and moved a considerable amount of its manufacturing from China to India, and increased its Vietnam presence. This is because of multi-pronged production disruption in China, the second largest customer market for Apple, and triggered an estimated 10% revenue drop in the first quarter of 2023.
