Who you are

Getting general-purpose robots to work in the home is just about the hardest problem one can work on. We are looking for people with the courage to tackle unsolved technical challenges with an intense work ethic
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent. We're mostly looking for graduate-level students in ML and Robotics programs, but are willing to consider exceptional people
Proficiency working with large codebases in Python, including testing
Ability to rapidly prototype ideas in code in an independent manner
Experience with Deep Learning Frameworks (Pytorch, TF, JAX, etc.)

Fast thinker and learner
Highly independent code contributor
Capable of performing world-class machine learning research but willing to work on infra and operational scaling of the fleet when needed
Good judgement in scoping research problems and infrastructure
Robotics and ROS experience
Has built large programming projects on their own for fun (e.g. open source projects)
Systems programming
Training large-scale ML models such as visual foundation models, large language models, pixel-level generative models
Published robotics research in top ML conferences (CVPR, ICML, ICLR, etc.)

What the job involves

This is a fixed-term role of 3-6 months
As we scale from research and development to full-scale manufacturing, we are looking for an AI resident
The AI residency role is a fixed-term role involves developing full-stack infrastructure for simulation, data management, and learning within the AI team
Unlike a typical internship, AI Residents tackle projects with the same scope and difficulty as those worked on by full-time employees
Bring cutting edge ideas from the AI & Robotics research community into our products and scale them up with the largest humanoid robot dataset ever collected
Build evals that benchmark open-source models on tasks useful to 1X
Build the “data engine” (frontend UI and backend) to review logs, clean, and label data
Ship new capabilities to robots deployed in customer sites

Our take

The field of robotics has advanced massively in the last few years, to the point where androids no longer belong to the realm of science fiction. 1X, formerly known as Halodi Robotics, is developing androids capable of human-like movement and behaviour, to employ in workplaces and homes across the globe.

1X's androids are strong enough to move shipments but gentle enough to handle fragile items, making them ideal for work in retail storerooms or distribution centers. In addition, they are able to open doors and take elevators, meaning it is simple to fit them into workplaces without making large adjustments.

Its home models have perhaps had the most attention, as the media and public are intrigued by the idea of an "intelligent android assistant" for the home. Although the adoption of working androids is still in its early stages, 1X has certainly made a splash in the space and may well be one to watch as it helps to shape the future of robotics.
