Who you are
- 10+ years of technical experience, including 5+ years managing engineering teams
- Healthcare experience, preferably in the services/provider sector or the payer sector
- Experience leading a hybrid model of in-house development and vended solutions
- A track record of developing high-performing technical teams
- Experience in a start-up or high-growth environment, ideally in healthcare
- A results-driven mindset, focusing time and resources against the most impactful priorities
- A concise and articulate communication style, breaking complex concepts down both verbally and in writing
- Customer-focused with a passion for serving patients and providers who make healthcare possible
- Agile, yet thoughtful, and can work effectively in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment

- Experience working with backend systems or data tools to shape or transform data (ex. SQL, Python, dbt, or similar)
- Experience with setting up and maintaining AWS infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools a plus
- Experience with Palantir Foundry data platform a plus
What the job involves
- Hopscotch Primary Care is looking for a hands-on Senior Director of Engineering to lead our Platform and Data Engineering teams at a pivotal moment in our growth
- The ideal candidate will blend strategic vision with technical execution, overseeing developers, increasing development velocity without compromising quality, and building out our internal engineering capabilities
- Our data-driven care model relies on a strong technical foundation to power our clinical operations, analytics, and patient engagement
- This leader will shape the architecture and execution of scalable infrastructure and data systems, ensuring they scale as we grow across new markets
- In our fast-paced, dynamic environment, you will work closely with our Product, Operations, Growth and Clinical teams to define and drive our technology roadmap
- Develop a deep understanding of the current architecture, product strategy and company vision to set a comprehensive technical strategy
- Partner with Product, Clinical and Operations to assess vendors in build / buy decisions balancing the strategic needs and available resources within the company
- Effectively communicate the technology vision with all levels and stakeholders across Hopscotch
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of high-performing platform engineers and data engineers
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous learning
- Oversee the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performing infrastructure and data pipelines
- Ensure platform reliability, observability, and performance as we scale
- Drive the adoption of best practices in cloud-native architecture, CI/CD, data governance, and DevOps
- Partner with Product, Growth, Operations, and Analytics to deliver tools and platforms that support our care model including build or integration with vended solutions
- Enable faster experimentation and decision-making through self-serve data and infrastructure tools
- Demonstrate ability to be customer facing when appropriate (clinicians, patients)
- Translate company objectives into engineering roadmaps with clear milestones, resourcing, and metrics
- Guide technical delivery while balancing speed, quality, and sustainability
Our take
Hopscotch Health is a MedTech startup setting its sights on addressing the healthcare needs of rural communities. Alarming statistics from the CDC highlight that individuals in these regions face a significantly higher risk of succumbing to heart disease, cancer, unintentional injury, chronic lower respiratory disease, and strokes.
While the concept of value-based healthcare, a model where healthcare providers are compensated based on patient health outcomes rather than sheer sales and services, is gaining traction and efficacy in urban areas, rural communities continue to lag behind, mirroring the disparities seen in traditional healthcare frameworks.
Despite being in early development, Hopscotch Health's trajectory largely hinges on its ability to establish valuable partnerships with payers, healthcare providers, practitioners, and the communities themselves. Nevertheless, there is ample room for optimism, given the substantial potential within an underserved market.
