- 12+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in leadership roles managing multiple teams within AI, Cloud, or HPC
- Strong experience in AI/ML infrastructure, distributed computing, and cloud-native architectures
- Expertise in software engineering (Python, Golang, C++, CUDA, etc.) and AI frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
- Deep understanding of AI hardware acceleration (GPUs, TPUs, custom AI chips) and high-performance networking
- Experience working with hyperscalers (AWS, GCP, Azure), CSPs, or on-prem AI deployments
- Proven experience scaling and managing engineering teams in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to bridge SW/HW teams, driving AI infrastructure innovation
- Strong mentorship skills, fostering a high-performing, engineering-first culture
- Exceptional communication skills to align engineering, business, and product teams
Desirable
- Experience in startup or high-growth environments
- Contributions to AI open-source projects, research papers, or industry standards
- Strong patents or publications in AI systems, cloud computing, or distributed computing

What the job involves
- We are seeking a Director of Engineering to work closely with our CTO and lead technical execution, team scaling, and innovation across our software team
- This is a high-impact leadership role, where you will be responsible for driving our engineering strategy, ensuring world-class execution, and building the team that will shape the future of AI infrastructure
- Lead the engineering organization across multiple locations (Paris, Silicon Valley), ensuring scalability, efficiency, and reliability
- Oversee the development and deployment of FlexAI’s AI Stack, ensuring smooth integration between software, hardware, and AI models
- Collaborate with CTO, Product, and Business Teams to align engineering efforts with market needs and company goals
- Set and track engineering KPIs, ensuring high performance, robust architecture, and continuous innovation
- Implement best practices for software engineering, AI model optimization, and AI infrastructure deployment
- Scale and structure the engineering team, hiring world-class AI, software, and infrastructure engineers
- Define hiring priorities and attract top-tier talent to drive innovation
- Foster a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and ownership within the team
- Mentor and develop engineers, ensuring continuous learning and career growth
- Define and execute engineering roadmaps, ensuring seamless SW/HW integration
- Guide cross-functional collaboration between software, DevOps, AI research, and hardware teams
- Optimize engineering workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and model deployment processes for large-scale AI workloads
- Drive performance optimization, fault tolerance, and system scalability for AI training and inference workloads
- Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of AI infrastructure development, from R&D to production deployment
- Ensure high-performance AI workloads, optimizing resource utilization and cloud/on-prem compute efficiency
- Work closely with customers and partners, ensuring product-market fit and scalability

Our take
With a vision to contribute to the AI revolution, FlexAI delivers a layer of software intelligence, abstraction and orchestration into the AI compute stack. By rearchitecting existing architecture, it is creating accessible, universal AI compute to support the future of machine intelligence.
The idea is to combat the existing challenges with running AI workloads across diverse hardware. By doing this, FlexAI will enable AI developers to leverage a broader range of computing power without needing to modify their code.
FlexAI only came out of stealth in 2024, so we've yet to see much of what it has to offer, but its proposition has attracted a hefty seed investment. This will support the company as it moves forwards with the launch of its first product and towards its ultimate goal to empower AI acceleration.
