Role
Who you are
- Previous engineering management experience with a track record of successfully building and leading inclusive, highly productive teams
- Experience working on web-based, user-facing products and features
- Experience running agile teams; scrum master certification is a plus
- Experience either leading or working alongside Data Engineering team
- Adept at driving decisions and uniting stakeholders when there is ambiguity, disagreements, or conflicting constraints or priorities
- High technical curiosity and willingness to learn. Diving into the details on the job is expected
- Technical background and hands on experience with Javascript/Typescript and more specifically React. Experience with Next.js, Node.js, and Express is a plus
- Comfortable working within a fast-paced high growth startup environment

What the job involves
- As an Engineering Manager at Convene, you will lead one or multiple agile teams to drive the scaling and development of our web, mobile, and data engineering initiatives across multiple products
- You will also play an integral role in scaling out our team, processes, and culture as we grow
- Along with your team, you will dive into product needs and technology problems to create powerful and delightful digital experiences for our customers
- You will also have many opportunities to influence the product direction
- Lead by example through hands-on engineering and technical contributions
- Develop and retain strong engineering talent
- Lead a distributed team of software engineers focused on the user-facing product tooling and cohesive web-based experiences
- Partner with the Digital Product team to develop a software roadmap for future features and improvements
- Develop individual and team strategies to support career and organizational growth
- Ensure your team meets deadlines and launch dates through an effective sprint planning process and daily standups
- Implement and adapt good engineering process to ensure high-quality deliverables
- Cultivate a culture of excellence and psychological safety to build inclusive, productive, healthy teams
- Collaborate effectively across teams, including outside of Engineering

Convene designs and operates premium meeting, event, and flexible workspace venues inside Class A office buildings. Founded with the aim of improving how people meet and work, its venues can host a wide range of events while also offering flexible WorkSuites and shared workspaces.
Like many businesses focused on in-person gatherings, Convene was significantly impacted by the pandemic in 2020, when demand for physical events declines sharply. In response, the company expanded is capabilities to support virtual and hybrid events, allowing conferences to reach both in-person an remote audiences. These formats allow participants to join sessions online, interact with speakers and hosts, and connect with other attendees through digital networking tools.
Convene has since continued evolving its platform and physical venues to support a more flexible events market. The company also strengthened its international presence through the 2023 acquisition of etc.venues, expanding into the UK and growing its portfolio to dozens of locations across the US and UK. With this broader footprint and a mix of in-person, hybrid, and flexible workspace offerings, Convene is aiming to scale is hospitality-driven model even more and grow annual revenues to $100M.
