Company mission

We’re on a mission. And it’s money without borders. Instant, convenient, transparent and — eventually — free.

Role

Who you are

  • You have extensive experience of Java 8+, experience with Spring framework
  • Strong expertise in microservices architecture and event-driven design
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases with the ability to design schemas, optimise queries and ensure data integrity
  • Proficiency in domain-driven design (DDD) to model complex business domains is a plus
  • A strong product mindset and passion for user experience, ability to prioritise work with the customers in mind and make data-driven decisions
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

What the job involves

  • Team you will be working with: Wise for Banks
  • We are looking for a Senior Product Engineer with a passion for building the future of international payments and a strong drive to connect banks and businesses globally with maximum ease and speed
  • If you have a proven track record of building and deploying scalable systems, along with excellent problem-solving skills and outstanding communication and collaboration abilities, then you're exactly who we're looking for
  • Wise for Banks empowers banks to leverage Wise’s infrastructure to offer their customers world class payments products through their own channels
  • We are working at the forefront of innovation, playing a key role in building scalable and robust systems that power our global payment network

  • We operate on a strong belief in automation, programmatic implementation and reusable design
  • We’re looking for people who can step back and think holistically about the ecosystem, but also follow through and help implement the design; drawing on the resources across the rest of the platform tribe
  • We need to sustain our growth by continuously iterating on the services we run, with a focus on availability, security, and ease of use
  • We’re looking for an engineer with relevant experience who can analyse complex requirements and deliver simple solutions to help our teams achieve our mission with speed and confidence
  • Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable services
  • Lead development efforts in event-driven architectures
  • Architect, design and optimise relational databases to ensure performance and scalability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support partner integrations and expand the Wise payment platform globally
  • Participate in code reviews, champion best coding practices and mentor junior engineers

Salary benchmarks

Our take

Wise started when the two founders realised they would be better off trading Estonian kroons for British pounds (and vice versa) between themselves rather than going through banks. That was back in 2011, and they've since grown Wise into one of Europe's most successful tech businesses, exchanging billions of currency every month.

Wise rapidly grew by solving a significant problem for customers, who lost too much money to banks when exchanging currency. They've attracted investment from some of the best investors in the world, from Andreesen Horowitz to Index Ventures and even Richard Branson.

The challenge for Wise will be maintaining their edge and brand power in a market that's becoming increasingly crowded with new entrants (like Revolut and Monzo) and incumbents (traditional banks) trying to catch up. To do so, the company is ramping up its digital and marketing strategies, as well as pushing for further development of its existing products.
