Who you are
- The ideal candidate is a motivated and inspiring leader with a technical background in databases and cloud-native solutions
- 5+ years of experience in a pre-sales, consulting, or customer-facing technical role
- 2+ years of experience managing technical teams
- Deep knowledge of modern database architectures, including NoSQL and distributed systems
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and enterprise application development
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging both technical and business stakeholders
What the job involves
- Couchbase is hiring a Manager of Solutions Engineering to lead our Central US Solutions Engineering team
- The SE Manager will oversee a team of Solutions Engineers who are passionate about helping customers succeed with Couchbase’s innovative data platform
- This role is critical to expanding Couchbase’s reach in the Central US region by supporting customers in their digital transformation journeys and driving adoption of Couchbase Capella
- You’ll work closely with account teams to shape strategy, manage pre-sales engagements, and ensure the SE team is delivering exceptional value to customers
- Lead and develop a team of Solutions Engineers across the Central US, ensuring they have the tools, training, and support needed to excel
- Collaborate with regional sales leadership to define go-to-market strategies and ensure alignment on customer success objectives
- Guide the SE team in managing technical discovery, solution demonstrations, and PoC execution
- Serve as a technical escalation point for complex customer engagements, providing hands-on support as needed
- Foster a culture of learning and innovation within the SE team, ensuring they stay ahead of industry trends and Couchbase product advancements
- Drive continuous improvement by sharing best practices, lessons learned, and feedback with the broader Couchbase SE organization
Our take
Critical functions for digital businesses such as computing and storage have become cheaper by orders of magnitude with the advent of cloud computing. However, these businesses still face the challenge of architecting their services under this paradigm. Couchbase’s NoSQL database makes taking advantage of these features possible.
The cloud vendor's major bets on Kubernetes, mobile, and of course, NoSQL have paid off. Many of the world’s largest companies have come to consider this software as mission-critical and Couchbase has benefitted from this as exemplified by its IPO in 2021.
The biggest challenge for Couchbase is that it is playing in a large but competitive market, with the likes of DataStax and the publically traded MongoDB, and all the major cloud vendors vying for similar customers in the NoSQL space. However, Couchbase continues to grow post-IPO and serves influential clients including Mariott International, Amadeus, and LinkedIn.
