Who you are
- The ideal candidate is obsessed with improving customer experience with data insights, a critical thinker and exceptional problem solver who can identify business opportunities and drive impact and cross-functional alignment, shaping product and business strategy through data-centric presentations
- Degree in a quantitative field (e.g. statistics, applied math, economics, engineering)
- 4+ years of relevant work experience
- Experience in leading data-driven projects from definition to execution
- Proficiency in SQL and Python
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to transition between data and business problems
- Exceptional communication (listening, written, and oral) skills with the ability to present findings & recommendations targeted to the audience in question
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and trust across functions and work collaboratively
- Experience in online experimentation and statistical analysis
- Passion for driving business impact with data

- Advanced degrees in quantitative fields

What the job involves
- Data and analytics are at the heart of Lyft’s products and decision-making. The Rider organization is focused on building a seamless, best-in-class rideshare experience for riders.
- As a Data Analyst on the Rider Experience team, you’ll partner directly with cross-functional stakeholders to identify opportunities and design solutions for improving Rider’s experience.
- You’ll leverage your analytical expertise to deliver actionable insights and recommendations to drive quality business decisions with customer-facing impact
- Manages and owns the end-to-end analysis on rider experience, including creating frameworks, defining key metrics, develop dashboards and monitoring business health to drive decision-making and prioritization based on Lyft's business, strategy, and mission
- Work closely with cross-functional partners (e.g. Engineering, Product, Marketing) to deliver actionable data-driven insights and identify opportunities for continuously improving the rider experience
- Monitor and diagnose rideshare offerings product performance and present findings to senior leadership
- Creates and monitors product performance dashboards and communicates findings to cross-functional team
- Act as a subject matter expert and thought partner in focused product area
- Breaks down complex problems from end to end and leads execution towards business impact with clear goals
- Design A/B testing and execute analyses to evaluate the impact of new product feature improvements
Our take
Lyft has aimed for consistent growth, making sure to pitch itself as a more reliable and friendly ride-sharing option than its main competitor, Uber. Uber has a greater market share and operates globally, but Lyft hopes to compete by its focus on ride-sharing over Uber's more diversified business approach and as a more rider-friendly and greener alternative to Uber.
Operating only in the USA and Canada, Lyft is in a position of being less affected by global events than Uber but also more vulnerable to local conditions. As an example, while it doesn't face the regulatory hurdles around employment rights that Uber does, it is unable to balance out the cost of the unusually expensive US auto insurance across its operations.
In 2022, Lyft acquired PBSC Urban Solutions, a bike-share equipment and technology supplier, allowing Lyft to compete in new verticals and reaffirming its commitment to green transportation. It has also trialed and launched Lyft Assisted, where drivers help passengers from their door into the car to get to medical appointments. These developments chime well with Lyft's unique selling point as a friendlier and more environmentally aware ride-sharing app.
