- Bachelor's degree, preferably in safety management, industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety, or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience managing safety for a mid-sized light industrial operation (400+ employees)
- Attention to detail, research, organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexible, adaptable, realistic, practical, calm, pragmatic, and agile
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Solution mindset with the ability to make independent decisions regarding planning, organizing, and scheduling work
- Tech-savvy with experience with Mac OS, Google Docs, MS Office, and other web-based applications
- Preferred: OSHA30 or OSHA40 Certification
- Preferred: Ergonomics experience and/or certification
- Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
- Extended periods of time in office and warehouse settings, both at Collector’s Universe and local vendors
- Working with and around equipment and machinery
- Occasional exposure to machinery noise from forklifts, injection presses, and other machinery
- Occasional exposure to warehouse temperatures and humidity
What the job involves
- We’re looking for an Environment Health & Safety Program Manager to join our Facilities team
- The Safety Program Manager is a critical role at Collectors
- You will support our growing global Operations team in creating a best in class workplace safety program
- As the face of safety at Collectors, you’ll set the standard for creating a Best in Class safety program and work environment
- You will report directly to the Senior Director of Real Estate & Workplace and work closely with the Operations, Security, and People functions
- Safety Program Development: Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs tailored to the specific needs of the industrial facility
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations and ensure the organization's compliance with them
- Risk Assessment: Conduct regular safety assessments and risk evaluations to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate them
- Training and Education: Provide training and education to employees on safety protocols and procedures, including emergency response, equipment operation, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents, near misses, and incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences
- Safety Audits and Inspections: Conduct routine safety inspections and audits of the workplace to identify safety violations and areas for improvement
- Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response plans and coordinate drills to ensure all employees know how to respond to various emergency situations
- Safety Equipment Management: Manage the procurement, maintenance, and distribution of safety equipment and gear, including PPE, safety signage, and fire extinguishers
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records and documentation related to safety, incidents, inspections, and compliance for reporting and regulatory purposes
- Safety Culture Promotion: Promote a culture of safety and awareness among employees, encouraging them to proactively identify and report safety concerns
Our take
Collectors offers a range of services for the collectibles industry including authentication and grading, collectibles research and sourcing tools, and a buy-and-sell marketplace. The industry is going through a huge renaissance, with a particularly high demand for sports and trading games cards, and Collectors has come to the fore as a major name.
While other big companies in the space include Fanatics and Steiner Sports, the fact that Collectors’ is more than a marketplace serves it well. Indeed, its most popular services appear to be grading and authentication, as well as storage vault services.
Collectors’ recent past has been very interesting to watch, as a 2021 acquisition led by current CEO Nat Turner unified the various brands of the former Collectors Universe, which was then relaunched as its current all-in-one platform.
It’s proving to be a shrewd move, as the “new” company’s first fundraise totaled $100 million, followed by an extra $123 million in post-IPO debt funding in 2023. With the collectibles industry forecast to double in value to be worth as much as $700 billion by end of the decade, Collectors is putting itself in a position of serious strength.
