Who you are

- Proven experience in hardware product development, preferably in the IoT domain
- Strong technical knowledge of hardware design principles, embedded systems, and product lifecycle management
- Experience with CAD software for hardware design and simulation
- Familiarity with hardware testing methodologies and certification processes
- Experience in supply chain management, including vendor negotiation and contract management
- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills
- Passion for sustainability and circular economy concepts
- You can effectively communicate with a Development Team of engineers and convince the Management Team of your ideas as well
- You are fluent in English (German not required)
What the job involves
- We're on the lookout for a Product Lead, that would take care of the consumer, operations and hardware tech-teams respectively; keeping them aligned, and focused on providing our users the best experience possible
- Lead the development of hardware products, from concept to production
- Prepare prototypes, conduct feasibility studies, and oversee the product certification process
- Familiarity with methodologies like Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Testability (DFT) is a big plus
- Work closely with software engineers to integrate hardware and software components
- Ensure seamless functionality between our smart cups, return boxes, and the Kooky app
- Experience with Agile or Scrum methodologies would be beneficial
- Oversee the prototyping and testing processes to ensure product quality and performance
- Implement and adhere to quality standards like ISO 9001 and ISO 14001
- Experience with validation procedures such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) is a big plus
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure timely and cost-effective production
- Manage relationships with vendors and negotiate contracts to optimize cost and quality
- Knowledge of supply chain methodologies like Just-in-Time (JIT) and Lean Manufacturing would be advantageous
Our take
In Switzerland alone, 290 million disposable cups are thrown away each year. It’s a mountain of waste that Zurich-based start-up Kooky wants to put in the past with its reusable takeaway cup initiative.
Kooky’s beauty lies in its simplicity - they provide business with the cups, and install cup disposal spots (or Kooky boxes) all over town so when you’ve finished your coffee you just throw it away. The only difference is that Kooky retrieve and clean all those used cups to create a sustainable circular economy.
Kooky has done well in this Swiss cities where it’s launched, and is focussing on rolling out new cities and a rewards scheme in its app. It isn’t the only company of its kind though. Competitor Clubzero operates in Europe and America, and has partnered with JustEat as well piloting a home collection service for its own reusable packaging. But it’s a hotly-growing market, and if Kooky can make its mark now, we may be seeing a few more Kooky boxes popping up in the near future.
