Role
Who you are
- 6+ years of full-stack experience across PHP and modern JavaScript
- Strong proficiency with Laravel and React/Next.js
- Experience with WordPress
- Experience with Docker and AWS deployments
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or GitLab CI)
- Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot or similar) as a genuine productivity multiplier - with the judgement to know when to override them
- Prior experience in a startup or scale-up environment where you've had to make architectural decisions without a large team around you across a variety of projects
- Experience operating in a product team
Desirable
- Experience working in a product trio with product managers and product designers
- Experience running JTBD interviews with customers
What the job involves
- Work closely with the product and design team across full discovery, design, and build cycles - from early problem definition through to shipped features
- Own the WordPress platform end-to-end: performance audits, plugin management, security hardening, staging environment setup, and ongoing improvements
- Maintain and modernise existing solutions, including legacy codebases - helping us reduce technical debt incrementally without disrupting what's working
- Build and maintain integrations across our internal systems (HubSpot, ClickUp and others), taking joint ownership of the technical backbone that keeps the business running
- Contribute to exploratory new product work, including validating and building early-stage solutions where the problem space is still being defined
Our take
In the past, the majority of people have not prepared for death. However, in recent years, an increasing number of people are talking and planning for it as one of life’s key events. Funerals shifting towards meaningful celebration of life parties is a prime example of this.
Aura is an online platform where people facing end of life can leave an online legacy for their loved ones. It was founded in 2017 by Paul Jameson after he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease, but wanted to embrace life, plan ahead and leave his family in the best position possible.
Since then, it has helped thousands of people tackle their hardships and is now run by Jameson’s family. The company has grown to offer celebration of life funeral planning, end-of-life support and the Aura Circle (a digital community of 30k people). With an important mission, Aura has great potential to build a significant business that impacts lots of people, and has attracted several rounds of angel investment to help it on its way.
