Role
Who you are
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
- 2+ years’ experience working in a strategic capacity in corporate FP&A, investment banking, or corporate strategy roles
- High proficiency in preparing financial management reports and deep dive analysis into business performance, as well as proficiency with valuation models
- Comfort with working with large data sets and streamlining data to actionable conclusions
- Advanced analytical skills and fluency with Excel
- Strong communication skills and a proven track record of communicating a vision and roadmap along with the resourcing needed to achieve it; ability to operate successfully in a cross-functional environment, build relationships, and influence managers
- Ability to build strategic plans and execute against them within quantitative modeling, strategic thinking, and sound business judgment
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to think end-to-end, manage long-term projects, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and produce high-quality deliverables
What the job involves
- The ideal candidate will serve as a key member of the Strategy and FP&A team, reporting directly to the VP, Strategy & Corporate Development
- In this position, you will be in a high visibility role and serve as a strategic thought partner who will advise and influence decisions that have a real impact on the business
- You will help drive growth and be empowered to deliver impactful business analysis across the organization
- Execute detailed financial models and other analyses to facilitate decision-making
- Understand and stay current on various regional markets and industry trends, the competitive landscape, and internal product development efforts to evaluate business opportunities
- Analyze financial and non-financial data to draw conclusions and make recommendations to management
- Own day-to-day work for the strategic team, including materials preparation, financial planning, senior management presentations, budgeting process, and communication with cross-functional teams
- Prepare financial models for new signings, acquisitions, and business ventures as required
- Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with key internal and external partners, investors, industry experts, and within the start-up ecosystem
- Assist in and coordinate due diligence, valuation, and other relevant analyses for potential M&A, investment, and strategic partnership opportunities

The Orchard has spent 25 years offering independent artists a comprehensive set of music services, including marketing, sales, YouTube monetisation, and distribution and licensing across over 40 worldwide markets. The company has spent nearly a decade of that time operating as a subsidiary of Sony Music.
The addition of YouTube monetisation services a decade ago was a smart move for The Orchard - even if it’s landed the company in some hot copyfraud water for what some criticise as an overzealous approach to copyright infringement claims. It means that artists with The Orchard have more tools in their arsenal to combat the rise of streaming services, which have put independent artists in a difficult position regarding monetisation.
If the company wants to continue providing the best service for independent artists, however, it may need to be more proactive in accommodating new and highly influential trends in music marketing. TikTok, for example, has become a major tool for generating exposure, and many artists are experimenting independently with NFTs. The industry is moving at light speed, and The Orchard may need to pick up its pace to continue attracting independent talent.
